Hello everyone. The question is. I recently bought a Russian headphones AKG K712 Pro. Here only did they not in Austria. They are made in Slovakia. I inspected the box set, headphones themselves - just like in the reviews. Now they are made in Slovakia?

Pictures?

As long as it isn't made in China or from other cheap labor underdeveloped country, the price for K712s would be justified. I would never pay $350 USD for a made in China AKG especially if the made in China Q701s, K701/2s cost 1/2 of the K712.

Here are the photos. Like I did not find any indication that it is a fake.

I'm quite sure it's not fake. They even changed the Akg K712's page - http://www.akg.com/K712+PRO-827.html?pid=1408 . The pictures now don't have printed "Made in Austria" anymore and as far as I remember there was a phrase "Handcrafted in Austria" as one of the features. Well, at least they're not made in China.

Thank you. Now I am calm. Now, hand-crafted in Slovakia. The main thing is not in China.

I found out exactly how to get the K712 to my liking. I feel they are normally lacking a little bit in the dynamic range at my listening levels so I put the amp on low gain, turned the volume up to 4 'o clock as some reason the dynamics really kick in at that point on low gain on my Lyr 2, especially the bass. Then I turn my dacs volume down to around 60% which causes the listening to be around 70-75 db average depending on the song with a greater dynamic range. Basically keep the amps volume high while toning down the source/dac volume, it will keep those dynamics kicking without being too loud.

Many oversampling DACs need some digital attenuation somewhere (anywhere, in the transport or in the DAC) to render >0db inter-sample peaks correctly. 5db is more than enough for all but rare curiosity recordings. This might be a factor.

Yeah, it certainly looks legit.  Companies are always looking for new, inexpensive places to open factories.  Maybe Slovakia is trying to attract manufacturing by offering foreign companies incentives, and that worked out for AKG.  As far as Made in China goes, as long as the company is directly involved in training the work force and directly overseeing quality control, there's no reason excellent products can't be produced there.  That said, I understand why China gets a bum rap: there are lots of cheap things that get made there.

As to why AKG no longer produces K712s in Austria, I reckon they're focused on K812s and/or whatever they're currently developing, and production space is limited (thus the outsourcing).

Hey, I don't know if anyone is interested, but I'm parting with my K712s, so I'm selling it on here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/739929/akg-k712
I will upload pictures soon, it's hardly used though.
