The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

IIRC the K70X series have ports in the design which can be adjusted (if you can get the headphones open) to tune the amount of bass. As well, it's not impossible that they have improved the drivers (similar to what Audio Technica did recently). Or it could just be another re-badge. I'm not so cynical to think that first off though. It would imply that AKG fired all their headphone engineers or something equally crazy or directed them to working on testing headbands and paint mixes instead.

Buyers regret? Don't, the K702 is a very good headphone, I'm just not a fan of the direction AKG are taking.

Many people find these among the very best headphones available (especially for classical music and similar genres), and if not for cognitive dissonance or expectations bias in favor of the more expensive flagships, likely would be joined by many more still.  Seems like AKG releases new flavors to edge back up and capture the original MSRP margins within the 7XX line.  Still great values, boosted by slight (and apparently welcome and sensible) improvements and nothing misleading (not like they are calling it the 9XX or the "Turbo-T-2000" or whatever).  I will keep putting more stock in what I hear, and less on what many write on chat boards (though it is almost always a fun read).  Enjoy what you have!

lol.

I somehow doubt it - this coming a couple months after the release of the Annies. How much "work" could they have done on the drivers in such a short time? Not to mention they look identical. I do love the color scheme, though.

so these are believed to be annies with a different number and appearance?

honestly, i wish AKG would stop playing around with the K70x sound and re-releasing the same **** over and over again, its about time they come up with something new and better. (id love to see a k1000 re-release or some sort of 1k+ flagship, maybe they could troll sennheiser with a K800 or something

Yes. Logical to assume that it's different color scheme and mass produced, but basically an Annie in everything but name. If anything, they might possibly be inferior due to the K712 possibly not getting the same attention to matching the drivers as the Annies. Though that's highly unlikely.

AKG has driver matching down to an art form, it seems.

That's a good tradeoff, really, and a nice bridge between the Q701 and HD650.

What did you think about the 65th vs the HD650's for tv shows/movies/anime and gaming?  I liked the Q701's better for gaming, not so much for movies.  There wasn't enough immersion to me.  I feel that the HD650's were the opposite, great with movies and mediocre for games.

The Annie borrows from both. I feeo the Annie does everything better than the HD650 except intimacy.

AKG couldn't have fired all of their headphone engineers a year after releasing the K550 and less than a year since releasing the Annies.

On the other hand it's entirely plausible that they could be having trouble getting R&D money out of Harman. I don't know about the rest of you K550 owners but while the build quality does seem robust I was quite disappointed by visible screws on the headband, under the pads and seems from the body being fitted together.

My K701 has very little in the way of visible seams and no visible screws. Are there even any screws in the design? Part of the feel to me says that the K550s aren't finished. This might not be a good sign for anybody expecting a future flagship from AKG.

Disappointing I was hoping for something more than a redone k701.

Well, there's the k701, k702, q701, and k702 Annies So why not make the k712's look exactly like the rest of them... I'm sure they sound the same as the Annies but with a more robust bottom end. That may not exactly be a bad thing but yah, its time to mix things up a little bit.

Thanks,

Let's see:

  1. more bass
  2. no bumps
  3. detachable cable

At least they finally did it right this time!
