Well it seems I have joined you folks today, having grabbed a Taurus MKII after auditioning it a couple of hours with my HE-6 (and the stores LCD-3). Was listening via a Vega, will interesting to see how it is from my Reference 10.32 here at home. Suspect I may be going back for the Vega soon...

I have the Taurus mkI and HE-6 and find it absolutely terrific. Other amps I have tried that sound good with HE-6 is Mjolnir, V200, and from the speaker taps of Creek 5350SE (85 Wpc ) integrated, Cary SLI80 + Leben CS300 - but the Taurus better them all. I really cannot find anything specific I'd prefer different - it is just very, very good.I find Taurus to sound the best in balanced mode with the HE-6.

My review of the Taurus mkII is submitted, so it's in Tyll's hands as far as when it might go up. Tyll also has a Taurus mkII and loves it as much as I do. In that article, I'll discuss my favorite pairings, especially HE-6. Keep an eye out for that if you might be interested.

Nice, look forward to it.

I will go out on a limb and presume that you like the Taurus:HE-6 pairing as much as I do. Had a good listening session today, literally misting up at all the nuance I was hearing for the first time on some much loved tracks (I imagine it would have looked a little odd, this guy standing up headbanging to some metal with glassy eyes, although I suppose perhaps not more odd than the eclectic playlist sounded in the first place).

Fortunately I didn't feel like the Taurus suffered especially being paired with the Audio-GD Reference 10.32 in comparison to the Vega, or at least not enough that I feel compelled to run out and buy the Vega straight away at any rate. Likely still on the shopping list in the medium term I would guess, I think I'm probably too OCD to live with the frankenstein aesthetics of the brutish black box that is the Ref 10 besides the refined lines of the Taurus.

Yep, the Vega sounds great but from an aesthetic standpoint, it's just amazing paired with the Taurus. Love the look of them together.

Taurus is my absolute favorite with HE-6. Hands down. I prefer SE mode but sometimes switch to BAL for a different take on things. Both are very good. And yes, I listen to a lot of metal on this setup - Iced Earth, Meshuggah, Living Sacrifice, Mastodon, King Diamond, Blotted Science.... Metal can actually sound REALLY good on the right setup (but not all metal, unfortunately).

Interesting, I'm favouring the balanced out so far, although impressions are very early for me obviously. I'm hearing a little more detail in balanced mode, given the recording/mastering on a lot of metal I can see how that may not be an asset at times. It puts more power into 50ohm on SE too right? I wonder if that might help with the visceral dynamics in metal too perhaps... Ah, so much fun ahead! Really appreciate having the different sounds available (including having the Ref 10 HP out available at the press of a button for non-HE6 cans at times).

I'm really eager to read your review Project86, I'm sure it will be informative as always.  Right now it's a tough choice between the Taurus and the AGD Master 9, although it looks like you can't really go wrong with either one.

very good news to hear!!!! I love the sound of the HE500+Taurus mk2 combo, and I'm thinking of upgrading the hp, candidates are HE6 and LCD3 or LCDX.
for my tastes the HE6 should be the best choice, but I was afraid of the driving capabilities of the Taurus in particular in terms of dynamics.

It sounds all there to me on the dynamics front (on all fronts really in my nascent experience with it and my HE-6).

Honestly I never really got the HE-6 until hearing it from the Taurus. I think LCD-3 is great but not necessarily worth the price increase from LCD-2. HE-6, on the other hand, looks somewhat affordable in comparison, and from the Taurus I'd say it's competitive with LCD-3 for sure. From a more basic amp I'd give LCD-3 the edge every time. Have yet to hear to LCD-X though.

Hi, bought an Auralic Taurus MkII in november and a pair of Lcd 2.2 which sound great. Yesterday I bought a used pair of He 6 (3 months old) from a guy that had taurus MkI -  Lcd 3 - Sennheiser HD800 and the He 6. He liked his Lcd 3 and HD800 better, so he sold the He 6 to me. I have a Rega Apollo 35th anniversary cd player and a Parasound Z-DAC with balanced cables to the Taurus.
I also have a LM Audio 218 mini tube headphone and speaker amp. Headphones: Denon AH-D5000 - Audeze Lcd 2.2 - Hifiman He 6. The Taurus drives the He 6 without problems and they sound just great, the LM Audio mini 218 also drives them with ease but has a much rounder bass. I am waiting for an after market cable from Q-sound with adapters so they can be used on Lcd 2 and He 6
When I get the new cable I will test the Lcd 2 and He 6 balanced and single ended and post my impressions. Will also get the He-adapter box and drive the He 6 from a tube amp.
Best regards from Norway.
