I got the C3 in five minutes after my last post, seriously, Fed Ex must have been reading this
I began playing around with it out of the box(while charging it up on my PC), and it was a joke to set it up...really, what are folks complaining about here? It took under five minutes to go through the menus and set it up(in my case, normal on the EQ, mid level brightness for the screen, not much else needed futzing with really..). The menu system is just like all China mp4 players were like a few years ago, folder based and easy to get used to. Mucho thanks to all on this thread for all of the tips to set things up my microSD card alphabetically. I set up my card yesterday expecting my C3 today and all is working fine
This beast is also built like a tank, really solid, miles ahead of my Clip+.
I honestly like the sound quality over my Rockboxed Sansa Clip+....by a pretty wide margin actually. With both 320 based mp3's and 16 bit FLAC, the sound is full and rich, very neutral, the way I like it. The sound stage is impressively wide, it really is making the Brainwavz S5's I'm testing the C3 with sound awesome!! I also tried out my Brainwavz B2's with it briefly, also a good pairing. No amp, IMHO, is needed with the C3, it's plenty strong enough, with enough sound variations, to hold it's own. It's signature is really well done, cudo's to Colorfly for giving such good sound to us poor folk
As for foibles, so far only the tiny screen(the C3 is much smaller than I thought it would be....)is forcing me to get used to it, but I'm adjusting. It's plenty bright enough and at least I can read the song titles without my glasses, so all will be ok. Bass isn't overpowering, and true bass-heads might not like it too much, but as I'm not a bass-head, there's plenty here for me.
I'll update this as I go along, but so far so great!
