Yeah, That is the lightning to USB camera connection kit.

Ipad > lightning camera kit > regular USB cable > dac

Dacs that require power from the ipad prob wont work.  With the Nuforce HDP plugged in the Ipad says insufficient power and plays music with its own speakers.

I didnt realise the lightning cck was out, great.
Thx for the heads up so quick as I'm sure there r lots of people looking at the mini for a audiophile digital out player. I certainly am.
Should be wicked with the hifim8 too.

I have an AT&T iPad mini pre-ordered on Day #1, and when it arrives in 2-3 weeks I'll try it with a number of DACs.

My favorite portable DAC for the iPad 3 so far is the Pico DAC, which just sounds more transparent and spacious than my iBasso D4 for example.  It's strange that on my Macbook Pro that these two DACs sound closer to each other than when using the iPad as the digital transport.  Always thought maybe it was a jitter issue, and the Pico DAC with up-sampling and re-clocking can reduce jitter more than the non-upsampling DACs.

My Lighning to USB CCK is already here, so I'll be ready to test things right away.

I tried at the San Diego meet.

The nuforce dac-100. Schiit gungnir, anedio D1 work with the cck.

I'm really enjoying my Ipad mini > cck > Leckerton 6s mkII > Westone ES5 :D

The Pico DAC works with it, and it uses ~97mA of current

Thanks Justin for the update.

I guess if its over a certain amount of power then it wont work.  My Nuforce HDP requires too much.

i know of a DAC that uses far less power than the Pico, and it doesnt work.  i have a theory why, but don't really have a reason to test it out.  things are still all over the place w/ the USB.

Hi There,

Thanks a lot for the report.  I was just about to go with an iPad 3 over the weekend.  Had a moment's pause, and here is your report.  Phew...
A quick re-confirmation, are you connecting this via Lightning > Lightning to 30 Pin adaptor > Old CCK > DAC?  That is to say, you are using the old CCK which needs a 30 pin adaptor right?  I don't know of a new CCK for the Lightning but if it's out and it works, woo hoo! So much the better.  I'll be using it mostly as a desktop source to feed my Wadia 151 Power DAC.   Thanks again.

That's super cool.  My 3G + WiFi mini is supposed to ship soon.  Very cool stuff and thanks everyone for the reports.
