Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

It's not planar, it's a lower end model than the th600. Sounds good, but not up to the 600's level. Also, I'll probably be reamed for saying this, but after A/Bing the 600 and 900 I'm buying the 600. And that's also after testing everything here including:

And

Oh wow, okay a lower end model. Well I'm sure some people will be jazzed about that.

Why would you be. What did you find on your trade show impressions and what kit? I do not find Fostex to be source picky (glares at HD800). What did you test with

I'm still here. I tested the 600 with the prototype amp, 900 also. Impressions: the 600 is probably my personal favorite sound, though I admit its coloration. Other show favorites of mine: hd800 on ALO studio six, he-500 on WA7, alpha dog on mjolnir, and the XC on their prototype DAC/amp

I mean this with all the love in the world but I kinda hate you right now lol

So jealous but happy someone in the thread is there taking pictures and giving impressions on the fly. Thanks a bunch for that!

Oh, and is there a price of tube amp yet?

Thanks,

Well for one, nobody mentions comfort. The 600 is actually much lighter than the 900 and much more comfortable to me. Secondly. I actually preferred the sound - there was a bit more bass presence to my ears and since I listen to a lot of electronic, that works for me. I honestly did not hear too much difference in sound, but I only had a short amount of time. Finally, the cups on the 900 are beautiful, but I can't justify the price for them. I want to feel free to take them with me to work and travel and not worry about scratching them etc. So the 900: less comfort, very similar sound, almost double the price - had to go for the 600. (Todd the vinyl junkie is at the show and gave me a nice price in an open box 600 - good guy!)

Great to hear, even though I haven't heard the th900 those are the reasons I'm not interested in them (price, weight/comfort, looks - to me, similar'smoother' sound).

Close to $1k is a lot to spend on headphones at least for me anyway most I have spent thus far, so double that is hard to justify (to the other half especially). Having said that I have spent 2k on speakers before but that's studio monitors with the goal of transparency for production.

So happy with these headphones. I'm interested in those semi open planars too, thanks for those shots. Even if the sound isn't quite up it par, if the drivers are better than t50rp we could see mrspeakers or others modding them down the line to improve them (grills, cables, pads etc)

Is that XC a basshead can?

So you selected the TH600 ahead of the TH900, LCD-X and LCD-XC. Interesting. Makes me want to try the TH600 even more now.
I've not heard the new Audeze models, but am a owner of a TH900. I already find the TH900 to be one of the most comfortable full sized cans I've ever tried (up there with HD800. LCDs are torture racks in comparison), so the TH600 really has to be something if it's even more comfortable like you claim.

Also, apologies for being off-topic, but is that your Project Starlight in your user pic? If so, do you any posts containing impressions of them?

Well, take it with a grain of salt, I'm not a big Audeze fan, I'd take the HE500 over any of them even though the XC is the most beautiful set I've seen to date. Was just saying in another thread that if I could own 3 headphones, it'd be the TH600, HD800, and HE500, they're all different and I love them all.
I really like the starlight and need to do some A/Bing to post impressions, but I don't have any good amps to compare it too. My impressions would be pretty limited.

Did you hear the normal X version? How is this compared to the HE-500?

Yes heard it, don't know that I could distinguish it from the LCD2, but I wasn't able to use my source material which makes a huge difference in understanding the sound. Anyway, the Audeze's sound more closed than the HiFiMans to me, the major reason I'd choose the 500. Like above, take it with a grain of salt, most people would go Audeze over HiFiMan, I'm just an anomaly :/

Not really I love my HE-500, and its strength is exactly as you mentioned, open airy sound that is just lovely with mids and bass to die for.
