You mean Amamax? I went to their site and I couldn't really find what I was looking for lol can you find a 3.5mm to RCA and give me a link? :p

Hey i tried to look online but couldn't find the link. I swear it was there yesterday. I'll let you know if i find it. Canadacomputers also stock these. Here's some pics for comparison

I have tons of these cables. They're inexpensive, big, bulky, perfect. They sound every bit as good as something that costs 10 times as much as far as I'm concerned (but I don't coat my stuff in snake oil).

Definitely recommended.

Very best,

lol what?

Here's a link I found for the cable

@ Toinfinity I don't think they ship outside Canada, but you might be able to get some info out of the page.

Heya,

Some did seem a little more to my liking on the Emotiva than normal headphone amps. The HE500 for sure. The LCD2 for sure. The HE400/MadDog were a little better, but it's not quite as noticeable as with the more insensitive orthos. The Denon was different sounding, it was kind of eerie actually. And the DT770's sound stage was improved. But I can't say that it was performing better necessarily. All I can say at this point without measurements is that I liked the sound better. Mostly the big over-riding theme I'm finding is that separation and sound stages and the low end control and response has been better compared to the headphone amps. Probably a great portion of it all is mostly preference. But I'm pretty sure at least with the HE500/LCD2 that it's performing better, even at a technical level perhaps. The D5000/HE400/MadDog were all a little too sensitive for the Emotiva, so they were not performing better at first, the noise floor was there. But with my 500ohm adapter, that no longer was an issue and they're dead silent now.

On another note, my HE500 just took a trip to Brian to be re-modded. He's come up with a really great new Hifiman mod that he has been successful with. He's changing out those ridiculous screw-in hifiman inputs for flush mini-XLR (like on the LCD's) and re-terminating my balanced cable to suit it. Going to be so much more nicer for the long term.

Very best,

Brian Where?

Thanks

Brian over at BTG Audio. He does professional headphone modding, re-cabling, etc. He can also just make cables and adapters. Very reasonable prices. He's also creative so you can have him figure things out for you that are not standard or typical. He's always experimenting on things to find new ways to change things. For example he's doing my HE500 right now to have mini-XLR flush inputs instead of the screw-on hifiman inputs (which are just annoying to me and difficult to put on/off and are not universal). And modding my previous made cable to match with mini-XLR. This cable can now be used on any of my headphones with dual entry, and any cable with mini-XLR can now be used on my HE500. So like 2 or 3 of my headphones can swap cables with ease.

I am listening to preproman's recabled 500s and it certainly did improve the headphone Very clear with enhanced extremes. Love these cans.

Heya,

I actually showed him which resistor I wanted, a 500ohm basic resistor from Parts Express that costs literally $1.50 or something. I just paid extra to have it put onto a 4-pin XLR to 4-pin XLR adapter so that I can put it inline with any of my balanced setups at will.

Very best,

MalVauX, do you mind sharing the resistor?  Did you pick that one for any particular reason?

Heya,

I'll ask Brian exactly what he used, because it works beautifully and get back to you.

I didn't pick anything special. I simply asked for a 500ohm resistor because I wanted to be able to take any low impedance headphone and bring it into the 600ohm territory after the resistor. The purpose was to change how an amplifier behaves with load. OTL tubes for example have peak outputs at higher impedances, typically 300/600ohm is their spot. Low impedance headphones don't match well to OTL's. Adding a resistor raises the impedance up so I can then ramp up voltage on the OTL tube and output at a different current too, to a headphone that normally would not receive that treatment without the resistor. The point is to let the amp perform at it's sweet spot, or best rated output range. In my case, the Little Dot MK III. Alternatively I'm using it also with a speaker amp, to introduce work so that it can up the voltage, drop current a touch, and this helps eliminate noise floor from the high gain of the speaker amp. It lets me use sensitive headphones with a speaker amp that otherwise would sound very noisy, grainy and generally unpleasant due to the high gain. It also allows more volume attenuation, so you can have more wriggle room to tweak.

Very best,

Thanks MalVeauX.  This is what I have in mind to - to be able to try my HE-5LE's on my Crack and use the 5LE's on more amps without a noise floor issue.  If I order from Bryan, I can always just ask to use what you got.

You have a noise floor issue with the 5LEs on headphone amps?  Strange...

Here's what he used apparently.

$0.10, Metal Film Resistors - Through Hole 1/8watt 499ohms 1% 100ppm.
