I'm not limited to $200, I just figured if I could get something awesome for $200 much why spend $400 on an amp?

most of the times one amp isnt the right one for every headphone..but i know from experience..the matrix is an excellent pair for the he400 and he300..it could even drive me he500 well...ofcourse my wonderfull 337 blow him out of the water..but its also more expensive!

I decided to try the HE400 with the amp and it doesn't seem to benefit from power like the HE6 does which is not surprising considering it was meant to be very efficient. Also the bigger problem with this is the volume control. You would need a preamp with this since it goes from silence to too loud in the slightest movement of the volume knob. I have a preamp and it has to be turned quite low for there to be some volume control. In other words use a headphone amp.

I often use my volume control from my computer when it's hooked up to more sensitive headphones. I think the HE-400 still get some benefit from the little guy, just not nearly as much as the HE-6.

Is anyone still using the virtue audio amplifiers? I really miss the size and look of those little guys.

Now that you've had both for a while has your opinion changed from the original review?

I have been using the Emotiva everyday quite extensively, but not with headphones. I've been using them with them tower speakers and this thing is pairing excellently. My only concern with them was the centre stage, I don't know if this has changed or not, since I haven't used the HE-500 for a good two weeks. Although with my tower speakers, I'm getting a very, very nice centre image and imaging. I'll be going back to using the Emotiva with the HE-500 in the next week or so and will update later.

I would say that the Emotiva with HE-500 has lot of impact and can still give finesse, but quite not up there with the O2.

Hello folks,

Long time lurker here. I just bought my he-500. Feels good to finally jump on the wagon after almost three months of researching. I'm a newbie in high end headphones so please excuse my newbie questions.

Zoom25 mentioned that it might be risky to use single ended directly from speaker amps. Why is that? Can I use the single ended input terminal to connect my computer or DAP?

For the guys who own both O2 and Emotiva, which one do you prefer using with he-500?

Thanks,

Just received my Emotiva today. Great looking little amp and I was really surprised by its quality build and weight. Now all I need to do is actually make a decision on which headphones to get. I'm really torn between the HE-500, HE-5LE and the LCD-2. I would love to audition all three of them but it just isn't possible. For those of you that have heard all 3, which one would tame bright recordings the best? I'm just getting so sensitive to sibilance or harsh treble. My main listening preference is classic rock and I really like a fairly neutral sound. I also really like female vocalists so an accurate sound for those vocals is important to me. Oh, and I currently have the HD-650's which I truly love, but planars are the next obvious step. Looking for suggestions.
