Now in China we have almost nothing as the government does not like public gatherings. We still managed and AWESOME Grimes concert.

I didn't know you were in China! Head-fi is accessible? A Grimes concert seems like it would be interesting, especially in an almost cyberpunk backdrop like Hong Kong or Shanghai.

The most fun I've had at a show happened after sneaking in to a They Might Be Giants concert in the late 90s. It was that primal joy of being a teenager combined with a band which was only out there to have a good time, puppet show and all.

That would have been so fun! Did they play Dr. Worm? We will occasionally break out singing Dr. Worm.

I am and it was :) she is awesome. Really young and shy when she speaks, but so self confident when she plays...and she was almost alone on stage with her mixing table...and still kept the people jumping.

Also the first (& thankfully one of the last) times I recall my ears ringing until the next morning.

Best balance of strange and fun includes an A Perfect Circle show where I was followed around by an American Indian in a wheelchair wherever I went. He was mute the whole time. Now I wasn't exactly sober, but I did verify that other people saw him. And of course, Maynard killed it.

Glad that installations were brought up, because the runner up for strange/fun was a music/visual art installation that was staged at a cocktail party at the MIT Museum. After checking out some of the exhibits I spent the rest of the time sitting there transfixed by what could be whipped up with a keyboard, laptop and some clever lighting. Don't remember who the artist was.

About to head out to go see a show right now, a record release party for a local ska band called The Prizefighters.

It's odd that some of the old friends you'd have never guessed even played music wind up in bands years later while bands you remember growing up alongside with fall apart.

TMBG, what a band, the polite side of Devo:) Particle Man is the greatest song ever!

So, a package showed up earlier today rather unexpectedly. A very interesting piece of gear. Anyone care to guess what it is?

(Anetode and other CS peeps know, so they need to keep quiet).

Other substances as well. In the past.

Less commercial but not underground per say: James Blake, Alela Diane, Laura Marling, Animal Collective, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, St Vincent, The Do, The Klaxons, Deerhoof, Jose Gonzales, MGMT and tons of others.

Deerhoof is a lot of fun live.
I saw Animal Collective back when they were a lot weirder. It was a long, meditative drum circle type thing.

You play piano? I am pretty sure any installation that you did would be pretty incredible.

I'm not particularly good. Had a few basic lessons as a kid and can play some pieces from memory. I can compose basic compositions given enough time.
