Really wish I could have gone, but unfortunately I live in Darwin, and being 15 getting to Sydney on short notice isn't easy. (I saw the thread a week before it happened)
What really makes it worse though was actually in Sydney at the start of the month.
Oh well.
Maybe next year.

The Fostex TH900 on the Weiss Dac 202 was just magical.  I haven't heard a headphone with that kind of superb bass that is so well balanced before.

The PS-1 is probably the one grado that I think is actually much better than the RS-1i.  I didn't really click with the PS1000 or GS1000.  The MS-Pro's  were pretty good too.  I only heard the recabled version and thought they were a little more balanced than my RS-1i.

Those two make me a little sad I can't afford to spend the kind of money they ask for.   The favourable side for my wallet is that comparing the T70 and T1 on the A1 clone seemed like the T70 is really good for the money.  Not as far off the T1 as you'd think for under half the price.  My Little dot 1+ is beautiful for the grado's but doesn't drive the T70 like the A1 does though.  Would love to have a good amp that can switch between low/high output impedance (I have always the DNA Sonett looks beautiful... :/).

Was a really fun meet though.  Met some cool people and listened to lots of really awesome gear.  Definitely looking forward to next years already...

I have so so fallen for the PS1... Maybe because it was the headphone that I got to plug it into my system and played with my songs (compared to STAX and classical, well nothing tops a few rock songs for me xp)

And Errymoose, your little dot IS quite magical when paired with a grado/alessandro! You gotta consider my Corda Arietta now xp <--- on sale!!

Wow,

There was so much awesome gear there. I really wish I could have gone. All the stuff I wanted to audition in one room. I really wanted to hear the Grace M903, LCD2 and 3 on my gear would have been nice. The Fostex TH900. Definitely NOT the Stax 009. If I had loved them my bank account balance would have been in serious trouble.

I think I am going to have to take a trip to Melbourne and visit A2A one day soon.

Till then, I guess if anyone is interested in a mini-meet in the future Just ask me :). Although my modest gear wouldn't stack up to some of the stuff I have witnessed in the photos.

Looking forward to next year.

Because I have contacted the senior citizens club who are regular hirer of the venue from 10-3:30, and they are on break until that week.
So we can have Can Con 3 from 9:30 to 6:30pm on Saturday 12 January 2013 (9 hours, Can Con 2 was only 5-6 hours.). It is only tentative and appreciate your opinions.
Or at least if you are not available, can you post that you are not available?

Kind regards,
Paul

Look like a very good meet.  All the Stax should be a blast to listen to.

Can anyone from the meet comment on how the Victor/JVC DX1000 compares to the TH900.  I had listened to DX1000 once and quite like it, but never had a to compare both of them.  I would be very interested in your thought.

the TH900 didnt really impress me aside from being pretty, but i'm not sure if it was the Woo in combination, or the cans themselves making for a lack of inner midrange detail; thus not very compelling IMO. I prefer the DX1000, older denons, HF2 and to some degree CD3000 for this type of can. It may have also had something to do with the fact that it was exceedingly difficult to play anything but bonjovi on that rig haha. the DX1000 on the other hand I have listened to at length when I was sent some to repair and recable. I found them to be the best bass monster sealed can i've ever heard and though the bass is positively massive and lushous, there is still a good amount of detail and a pretty decent soundstage for a sealed can, even for a woody, I guess thats down to the humungous cups.

i've gotta say, even though its bigger than any other year i've been, I really dont know if its necessary to separate vendors and other members. i've been coming to the Sydney meets for 5 years now and I come very much as an enthusiast first, as a vendor yes, but primarily as a hobbiest looking to talk shop with other hobbiests and hear gear that you simply cannot hear in any shop (this was punctuated at this meet by the most mentioned rig being DIY). however the sales pitch noise from some vendors may cause some bleed....

I started in this game to improve my own experience and it turned into work, but those who know me well, will also know that i'm still very much a badly addicted audio diyer and music is central in my quest. Yes my efforts lately have been more focused on the attempt at building up a decent speaker rig that can match my jh13 for impact and speed (a tall order, despite the sound tubes lol), but headphones are still close to my heart.

This idea of getting vendors involved in a more organized manner is cool and to be encouraged, but i'm not sure we have quite the scale to justify this rather segregated layout, I had to simply abandon my table to talk with other members and try gear on the other side of the room. anyway perhaps this subject is better discussed before the next meet rather than the impressions thread. Hyping my products is never one of my favorite past times, I tend to prefer to let my customers make their own decisions, while letting the build quality speak for itself (thanks for the props drez)

so a few further impressions and comments.

....009's out of T2? hmm very source dependent, I found not only the treble a touch hot, but it seemed to have an odd notch in the low midbass->bass that meant that even though the low bass where there is little content was extended and present, the area from maybe 75-150hz (at a guess) was not right, the midrange was to die for. For me it sounded wrong with any content that had musical information here, but glorious (if a touch hot) with other content that didnt. I felt this literally within seconds of putting them on. phew!

haha you would think anyway, till I listened at length to SR-007 mk2 w T2 and BHSE (DIY) after imbibing red wine, coffee tequila liquer and... later haha.... maybe after the speakers are done, that listening session with my ESS dac, my music and Nattonrice's ScanSpeak 2 ways (which use drivers from the same revelator range as what i'm building) gave me confirmation i'm going in the right direction for now. They were stupendous headphones and a stupendous amp that I could possibly even manage to build if I could manage to get it into a case (in joke), but not something I want to divert funds towards just yet.

I was lacking a functional balanced amp to use the dac with so it didnt come to the meet from Tom's; only having somewhat untested DIY uncased LPUHPs, which are speaker amps and had a question mark that I didnt have time to chase down, being DC coupled I wasnt happy to try to iron that out at the meet, particularly with other peoples headphones.

Seeing wink's table my immediate thought was to try out the isopodbj mod for laughs, that collection is incredible to me every time I see it.

Tom, I hadnt noticed the extinguisher, knowing your concerns I get the feeling that was deliberate haha, I loved the note too, my favorite line 'NO, I will not be sympathetic'

anyway it was a good meet, bigger again than last year, better venue than last year and the gear turn out was huge. Nice to see everyone again, this as usual is my favorite part, it was a good distraction from events on the home front. thanks Paul, Vlad and everyone that helped to make it a success.

Thank you Jeremy~

I will take note to offer option for vendors to allocate their table with everyone else.
