The Centrance HiFi M8 thread

My pre-order is from mid Jan,2013 for a HifiM8 XL4, can anybody make a guesstimate if I will get my unit in August or will it be September or later ?

Use an iPhone and iPad so thinking to switching over to an Hifi M8 LX XL4 if possible as the iOS 24/96 is not likely until October.

Mostly will use it at my desk to drive QC15 and/or HD800 with my Macbook pro, is it a better option to wait for the iDevices model to try to switch to the LX model ?

I ordered mine early January, so I have a feeling you'll be in the September/slightly later batch with me.

Thanks, yes my instinct was it may be September (but hopefully not later :frowning2:, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this matter.

Looks like August may only go December or so unless production is already ramped up. Plus iDevices units production may be competing with LX model which is already being offered for general public sale.

@mgoodman

Just a quick couple of questions regarding connecting my Hifi_M8 to my home system.

Which would you recommend? And why?

Thanks in advance.

The mini to mini seems to have more `beef`, the digital toslink seems a bit thin.

Going by what little I know the mini to mini is using the Hifi-M8 amp and the digital is bypassing the Hifi-m8 amp?

Dear Expat, I've been away for a couple of days.

Consider that the EQ will not be available when in digital out mode. Only available in analog mode. Others have already described the differences. If going digital, you are hearing the DAC in the other piece of equipment (Denon in this case). If going analog, you are hearing the DAC in the M8 and only the amp in the Denon is utilized.

Is the HiFi-M8 (apple usb, not LX) shipping yet? On the CEntrance site it says shipping on sept, but I saw people have used them already.

Yes, some early pre-order customers already received their M8's and are happy with their portable setups. They surely waited for a long time and we can't thank them enough for their patience.

We expect to "almost" clear the pre-order list at the end of August. Some dealers are also getting units, so if you shop around you may be able to buy HiFi-M8 units from dealers.

Another large batch is being made in September and that point we will finally be in stock. This is a very popular product. We are ramping up production, but it will take about 6 more weeks until we are caught up.

its too bad there.
Michael had a KILLER idea for something similar to the VAMP VERZA plated system - before the VAMP VERZA
was out!!  I'd like to see a rubber/rail-like system like on the PHA-1.  But with the sonics I've heard and what I'm expecting
I'll take it!!

Well, we do appreciate the love. And yes, a fresh new M8 is headed your way. Hang in there brother.

mikemercer - if you get yours first I'm calling insider good buddy cuts on you! Or camping on your doorstep... Sorry, just got the same jones going that you do! Mr. Goodman, just teasing Mr. Mercer, and letting you know there's an impatient mob outside the gates... At least the end is in sight. The DX50 is available for purchase.

It says on the website USB OTG, so would this work with the Hifi-M8 and LX via the USB type B port?

here's a screenshot of the ibasso Dx50 on their website: notice the screenshot on the top right hand corner (Directory) shows USB OTG.

It is an awesome feature for a DAP to have imo and should be a standard from now on!

Anyhow, I sent an email to ibasso about 4 hours ago regarding USB OTG capabilities for the DX50, I'm sure they are SWAMPED with emails so we'll see if I can get a response by tomorrow and I'll report back here.

I have resisted temptation so far and I HAVE NOT ORDERED A DX50. My Samsung S4 with USB Audio Recorder Pro app is more than adequate as a transport for the limited time that I use the Hifi-M8 in such a way.

here's the response I got from iBasso:

Hi,
Thank you for your email.
The DX50 can connect to external storage via OTG.

Sincerely
iBasso Audio

My email was more about wanting to know weather DX50 can be used with an external USB Dac, so this email doesn't say much regarding that. Probably will not be able to be used in such a way. *shrugs

If a DX50 could connect to all the HiFi-M8s, that would sure make the Ibasso product very appealing...

I also wonder if Michael is intending to test DAPs, and find out whats compatible and whats not?  You know, in an official manner...
