Place a coin sized felt in the center of the driver...
U can test it out by sticking it from outside the pad to hear if u like the effect b4 u rip open the pad.

Well, I put my K550 video review up:

I'm really interested in what mods can be done on them, but at the same time I don't want to gum everything up in case I want to sell them... I'm not totally in love with the sound signature but I don't hate it either...

I've decided I'm not too overly attached to mine.

The continuing clamping force/seal issue has got me back to using my Bose AE2s while out in public.

Even if they do sound more colored and certainly more grainy they stay on my head better.

When I was studying abroad in the Fall, one of my classmates had a pair of 550s. The first time I tried them, I wasn't blown away, but I definitely noticed small sounds in my music that I had previously never noticed. Despite my initially tepid response, a few days later, I had to listen to them again…and then again a few days after that. Suffice to say, they grew on me.

I'm not sure if these are the perfect headphones for me, but I certainly wouldn't mind owning a pair someday.

I did find they grew on me, but I don't know if I will keep them. The money may be better put towards something like the TH-600 for my tastes..

these are a set of very clear " 50mm drivers...."
this tot just hounded me today, there must be something i can do to maximize its potential..
this 200$can should be slamming like a denon...without screaming like a b**ch

ok did some more tweaking...
and this is what i did to take away the scream somewhere in the highs.

infront of the driver..added a 1mm felt :
this takes away the upper highs i believe.

but there is another peak somewhere in the vocals that drives me nuts..
open up the screws, n behind the driver, i added this ring felt:

i can quite confidently say this felt kills off that scream in the vocals.. lol
whitney's "i will always love u"  doesnt cut me like a knife anymore.

You are using makeup+lipstick aren't you?

Haha, lol no. If I was that would be a pretty bad job. I'm wearing some lip balm because my lips peel a lot?

I'm going to file this under "strange compliment".

You could actually file it under "slightly creepy compliment". (Just kidding). As long as you don't file it under "complement".

I thought that was an Aussie accent. Wasn't quite sure till I looked at your Location.

Anyway, really nice review. Very smooth and to the point.

I agreed with a lot of the review however I don't find the K550 too bright. I however, like a more analytical sound.

It only pops up on some tracks. Funnily enough I like the K550 more with my glasses off but that isn't exactly practical...

Maybe AKG revised some models, or it's burn in, or I'm just used to it, but I've never felt my K550 to be "screammy" or overly bright...true the treble does spike a bit but I've only heard one track that really pierced my ears and it was a piss poor recording anyway. Give it time, you'll understand them and enjoy them.

It may also be because I use them exclusively on tube amps too, I think that helps tame them and smooth out the highs. I find them a wonderful compliment to my HD 650.

my felt is 1mm thick...both front n back discs same diameter...so jus measure n follow tat at the front.
to cut inner hole, jus fold the felt into quarters n snip , jus estimate, not heart surgery :p

u can experiment with foam lying around yur home too...
my point is, to minimise the scream, u need to get to the back ring of the driver.
