Unique Melody Platform Pure 6 (PP6) - review (1st post), discussion, appreciation, & tour thread

First post here.

:)

On a related note. If Apple can file ITC (International Trade Commision) complaints/suit against anyone, anywhere (think Samsung and Motorola fiasco). Guess what Logitech will do if this (like JH Audio initial offering of the JH-3a) also does infact uses Logitech's/UE Intellectual Property?   ITC Injunction. So those $2300 might be cheap if this actually goes out the door.

Curious to see if the "community reaction" is going to be the same about promises and non-delivery.

of course there is more than one way to skin a CIEM for active X-over.

Good luck to all to include UM.

I understand some of you, or many, think that the price tag is too high.
We are pointing this product, PP6, towards the direction of a luxury item for luxury sound enjoyment packed in a luxury packaging.

No need in luxury package, the best is simple and low cost.
Just need luxury sound...

I think $2300 is justifiable for people who wants to hear music uncompromised music, holding other factors for music constant. One way or another there would still be people who would purchase the PP6, let's just hope that dissapointment would not be in there mind when they've listen to the PP6.

Keep in mind that some of us are using systems that are over $2300, not even including the price of the custom IEMs. I'm not saying this to brag but rather to point out that the $2300 is not necessarily out of touch with what the market is willing to pay.

This assumes of course that the PP6 is at least as good (or better) than a quality setup using the Miracle or Merlin.

That's a very good point.  True, $2300 is about double the price of another top-tier custom, but if the amp and dac in its box are top notch, the price is perfectly reasonable, considering the form-factor and uniqueness of active crossover.  It's all gonna come down to the implementation and whether they can match the expectations that such a high price tag brings.

Personally I think the price is justifiable, even though I'll not be able to afford it for at least a few years, if ever. But for those who can afford it, I hopeIt sounds as the price says it does :p

There are plenty of $2K+ rigs out there, so the $2,300 price isn't unheard of.  Plus, there are some custom IEMs that use passive crossovers and are priced not too far off (UE, FitEar, Spiral Ear, Beat Audio, etc.).  Value is personal and each person just as sound quality is.  It will most definitely be worth it for some people and not ever for others; it comes down to how it sounds and how important it is to achieve that sound.  Personally, I can't wait to hear the PP6 and see how it stacks up regardless of the price.

What input would this need to be able to use it with a DAP? Is it coaxial?

Also, what manufacturing costs does the PP6 have that would make it ~$550 more expensive than the JH3A? I assume it's the active crossover?

Sorry but I completely disagree. 2300 for what amounts to a CIEM which in essence from what I've read is an idea owned by Logictech is preposterous. On top of that you don't even get any extras such as artwork. This hobby is seriously taking a nose dive not unlike the speaker industry did years ago when they started demanding exorbitant amounts for a small increase in audio quality. Oh well it's your money people, unsubscribed.

I agree with you DF, it does seem completely overpriced but I'll keep watching this thread and reviews just in case it turns out to be way ahead of everything out there at the moment.

I wouldn't say it's overpriced although I would like a lower pricing to make it more competitive to potential buyers of the JH-3A.

Anyways considering the fact that it is the only portable set-up to offer active crossovers and due to the track record of UM as offering some of the best custom IEMs on the market.  Compared to other competitors on the market I would not say that it is overpriced at all.  And I'm surprised DF.  You seemed on board when it was rumored to be 2000 dollars (which was from the start), what is an extra 300 + cost of artwork when you're already investing that much.
