Try reversing the comply tips. I have pics earlier in the thread. It won't change the sound much.

First hours listening to these babys (FXD80),  i dont have high end IEM`s, only a bunch of cheapies. 
 
 
1. I was execpting less bass.  These dont have the same bass as the S500 and FX40, but they are not bass shy, they got the punch and impact.
 
2. One thing i didnt like about the FX40 was that i couldnt use them on noise places, there was something, maybe a design flaw? that made them useless or didnt shine on loud places, its not a problem with the FXD80.  very happy i can use them for walking/jogging etc. 
 
3. Not treble heavy as the FX40, not even close. Snares and crashes of drum kits sounds nice.
 
4. i can cranck these babys and they keep shining, (something i couldnt do with the Fx40)
 
5. Level of detail and clarity es ABOVE anthing i got so far, including Headphones.  My S500 dont have the same level of detail and clarity.
 
6. Soundstage... man.............!!!
 
again, i dont have high end stuff, so no way i am going to say they are the best thing under 100 or whatever price or that they are giant killers.  BUT all i know is that i more than impresed with these stuff, the level of detail, guitars, pianos, voices man.. its EPIC!
 
I can use these all day and night non-stop, cause they are so easy on my ears...sweeet lord jezuz!

Glad you are enjoying the D80, rickdohc. JVC, in my opinion, should grab the award for best value in sound quality for 2012. These nanotube carbon phones have been outstanding. Here's the thing, I know some of my head-fi pears will disagree with me (and that's fine), but I don't feel that any of the JVCs sound the same. To JVC's credit, each phone IEM and headphone has it's own personality, I believe. Yet, you still hear and recognize them as being in the same family. I like this new JVC so much that I think I will eventually purchase the D60 and the S400. Happy listening!

I'll give that a try, thx for the tip. Will have to cut the wax guard though. I also ordered some cheap "monster" tips from ebay. I looked for originals, but the only place i could find them was the official website which had 6 pairs at $40 + shipping.

I have been using some FXD80's for about a week, although not had much listening time. They don't have the detail and clarity of higher-end headphones but the bass is pretty sweet, certainly put TF10's to shame in that regard. Superb for the price and definitely better than the Yamaha EPH-100's so far as I'm concerned.

Reversing comply tips. That is brilliant. See i like complys on iems to take the edge off the highs sometimes because the siund travels down a rubber tube then stopps half way and the sound then continues through foam. The rough surface of the phome aciustically will direct sound in many different directions thereby having a deadining effect.

This can be desireable or non desireable depending on the iem and the sound u are going for.

Switching them around gives you closer to silicon tip sound with foam comfort. This is because the sound does not travel through ANY foam when put on this way.

Dont know why i didnt try this before but thanks for posting it here.

See after burning in my fx40 i no longer needed the comply to take the harshness out of the highs so i tried this this am at the gym and loved the result.

Complys itch less than stock tips over long listening so its worth a try if feel they change the sound too much. Thx gnarls.

You're welcome. It really is the best way to wear most iems. I got the idea from someone else a long time ago, dogears I think. Glad it worked out for you.

I totally agree with you, JVC has been outstanding with their Carbon Nanotube technology this year and I don't really care much what the detractors over here in Head'Fi says, its their loss anyway.
 
I can see an FXD70 and FXD60 in my near future, not that I need more iems, but they'll certainly broaden my horizons.

received my jvc fx-40 today after buying it a week ago on dsnuts's recommendation. i can only say that i'm blown away by the earphone's performance for its price, even before the heavy burn-in recommended. the only gripe i have would be that due to the lack of strain relief on the housings, i don't think these are built to last against careless handling of the earphones. But then again, for 20 odd usd, i can't really complain though. All in all, definitely a great earphone for it's cheap price. and one thing that really makes me happy about these earphone : none of that annoying microphonics that the Hisoundaudio Crystal has. Definitely a gd earphone for exercise(gym/jogging). check it out guys. once again, thanks dsnuts for your recommendation. cheers!

Glad your enjoying them. I still use my FX40 in a mobile rotation.. My pair sounds great and your right they are perfect for the gym. Small comfy, no microphonics,.Later on if you want to upgrade that sound check out a FXD70, FXD80. Burn time my friend. 200 hours music blasting.

 . wasnt expecting this kind of music quality for 20 odd usd.the sound(even before burn-in) totally thrashes my a-jays one, which was more expensive, no comparison at all IMO. JVC has really amazed me with their carbon nanotube earphones, amazing value. Really excited to see how these turn out after the massive burn-in suggested by dsnuts. cheers buddy!
