Thanks. Will the ASG 2 be the same size as the ASG 1? And are you using that same cable that turns green over time?

The cables turn green due to the copper being oxidised. The cables that come with the ASG-1 are pretty much the same as any CIEM/ Westone RC IEM. I highly doubt it will change. IIRC you can order the cable in black, which hides the colour change.

It is impossible for cables not to green over time. That is unless they are silver coated. The. They'll turn blue. If they are gold coated, then it won't change.

From what we know they should be relatively the same. As Aurisonics has mentioned on this thread, it seems the new ASG-2 shell shall incorporate the information gathered from the custom IEM's they build, meaning they now have a larger pool of sample ear molds to generate a more universal fitting IEM. Basically, the nub at the top is not as pronounced and the nozzle angle is slightly different. Also, according to the Aurisonics banner ad running on Head-Fi it looks like we shall be seeing some new types of cables, no more information on that has been given yet. I guess we shall all have to find out after/during NAMM.

Cables change color in the ways people responded to this post before me. Not gonna repeat them but the basics are the black insulation will hide any discoloration that will come over time. Underneath the insulation the cable will discolor, so if you dont want your cable changing color, opt for black cables as it will cover/hide the discoloration. AFAIK, The oxidation effect (as discussed in many other threads) does not effect the sound of the cable.

Thanks for the info. I posted a similar question a few pages back. Really looking forward to the ASG-2!

If you look at a cutaway view of the skull with the ear canal exposed the eardrum is WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY back there. You would really have to get stupid with something to hit it and the pain you would experince once hitting it would be enought to have you stop before you damaged it. It can vary in how far it is but can normally be around 35mm in to the eardrum not to mention most ears have some pretty sharp bends in them that makes navigation back that far with something straight a bit hard to do.

.  I have an appointment later this week and will have a hearing test as well - since I'm there anyways.  I figured it was a good idea with all of the concerts I've been to, stage monitors, singing in a live band (in front of a blaring horn section), etc.

How pronounced / noticeable can I expect the colour change be (subtle or significant)?

The green colour is more than subtle actually. There will be a green hue running throughout the parts of the cable that are exposed the most to sweat, etc. For my own cable the colour started appearing after 3 months of heavy use (on the go and at home) and the cables are greenish but not full on green. If you look at average_joe's IEM Cable review thread there are pics of the stock cables being oxidised. I can't capture the colour change of mine since I don't' have a good camera.

Whoa! That's more than I expected, assuming the standard AS-2 cables oxidize in a similar fashion.

Yep, mine is changing slowly but surely. It definitely has a green tint to it, and in varying silver/green hues all over. I'm not fond of the look at all, and I'd get a black cable like for my ES5 if I did it over. (The first cable for my ES5 is completely green, just for comparison.)
