Yes but I would save a bit more and get the new CKS99 instead. Improvements I guarantee! I was very tempted to give the CKS1000 a try but a great deal on a new Sony MDr-1R took me away from that deal so I am left wondering. I did read a few translated reviews of the CKS99. It looks like they have improved the sounds on the CKS77 and a new CKS99 can be bought for $125 on raukuken market place. Basically japans version of buy.com. They ship to the us it looks like too. The cheapest I have see them online. I will eventually own the CKS1000. I have to admit the new JVC FXZ100 and the FXZ200 due out at the end of this month I have a big interest in before I try out a new CKS earphone.

Could you perhaps link to the deal on the MDR-1R?

Good plan. I was so close to getting the CKS1000..Need to hear them. I am gonna guess a mix between the CKM99/CKM1000 tuning and the bass end of the solid bass series. Something close to the ultimate bass earphones but I am holding out for the new JVCs. Too much goodness headed our way. Wish I can get all of them. Lol.

Sure. Both are considered bass heavy. Both share a nice wide stage which makes sense for bass headphone phones. The CKS77 a bit wider but not by much and the XB90 is deeper over the CKS77.

the CKS77 utilize their air chamber tech which gives a crazy amount of space for your tunes both in depth and width. Otherwise these have a very Audio Technica tuning meaning a very complete sound. Extended highs full frontal mids and does have a big mid bass with the sub bass.. Over all tonality can be a bit on the warmish side when first heard but that does go away with more use/ burn in..A very complete and musical sound and is overall a forward sounding and immersive earphone..

Where the overall forward balanced approach to sound with a bigger mid bass is the sound trait for CKS77 the XB90EX can sound a bit laid back in comparison. Where the XB90EX excels is in the mids. One of the best mids for iems.. Deep full and layered better than most iems.. More so than the CKS77. The XB90 is all about the sub bass more than the mid bass like the CKS77. So might take a step back from the CKS77 in punch but will excel over them in rumble. The Sub bass of the XB90 is amazing. 16mm drivers. I do believe these beat the ASG-1s and their 15mm drivers in size. The XB90 reach sub bass effortlessly with authority like no other iem. The highs do have a roll off like many Sony iems and headphones in the highest octaves so is not as present or expended as the CKS77 Audio technica sounds. This lends to a very smooth and easy sound that is on the XB90EX. This being said the highs while sounding a bit more reserved are very refined on these earphones while not as present as the CKS77. I do notice when amped the XB90 sound is brought to yet another level over the CKS77 amped.

The real difference in the 2. The CKS77 the sound is projected through their sound filter in the nozzle which amplifies the sound to your ears giving them the full sound they have. The XB90 actually has the big sound going for them with the biggest dynamic driver. To my surprise there is a smaller air chamber on the back of the XB90EX. Something that they definitely took from the AT camp. More room for your 16mm drivers to breathe makes sense to me.

My CKS77 broke. So I need a replacement quickly. They got snaged and now the right ear piece wont work. It's very hard to find reviews of the xb90s on the net so thanks, I might just buy them from AJ but with the cks99 coming out soon I am having second thoughts.
