New AKG Headphones "By Tiësto"

It's not like AKG never built a bassy headphone. Anyone heard the latest K240 MKII? This thing is the very definition of "bloated bass".

But still, these Tiesto headphones are closed cans, and I never heard a closed AKG. Tiesto's music isn't all about bass either, so those probably won't have the same signature as Beats. Or at least I hope so.

And my curiosity still aches under the unknown method used to change the sound of the headphone with a physical switch on the cup itself. Can't wait for someone to take these apart and see what this switch actually does.

Well yes, AKG's K240 Studio was definitely bassier than the Monitor that preceded it, to appeal more to casual consumers (which went with the lower impedance and stuff). Why AKG didn't continue the production of the Monitor isn't exactly something that makes too much sense to me, other than the promote the K271 or something?

The cups don't look all that big, so I have my doubts that they'd be overly bassy though. I hope they don't get delayed, since June's far away enough. Anyone think that Best Buy will have these out to test like the K550?

I'd assume the switch turns on some weird filter/EQ, since it doesn't look too obvious that there are any ports that could be mechanically closed. That'd be majorly cool though.

And I totally giggled at Val's comment.

Woha, Best Buy is an authorized dealer of AKG headphones?!?!? Since when?

I just checked Bestbuy.ca, and searching for "akg" doesn't return anything.

Well at the Best Buys in the US, they actually have quite a lot of nice headphones for demo as of late. The one around me has the Audio Technica A900X and ESW9, Sennheiser HD558 and PX360, Pioneer MJ591, and K550. They also have one other AKG on the shelf. I think it's the K495NC? That one isn't for demo, sadly, even though I really want to hear it, mostly because it's...it's more "radical" of an idea than the Tiesto headphone. I'm positive there are other ones, but I was too busy having an aneurysm at the fact that Best Buy carries something other than Beats to remember them all.

I dunno what you guys are complaining about... Maybe these will actually be some good sounding and good value cans... as far as celebrity endorsed headphones go most of them are pretty crappy sounding for the price *cough* beats *cough*

Bestbuy AKG dealers? Wow never would have thought. Maybe AKG is doing a better marketing job and gonna try make themselves know to the general pub.

Well Best Buy has sold the K240/K271 online for a while, but I never thought they'd actually put some in stores. Too bad it's not the ones we all parade as "good" though, other than the K550, which I finally got to try there. Now, my source was my phone, which is a terrible source, but I at least got to hear the sound sig, and I was kind of underwhelmed since they share some of the weird upper midrange issues as the K701 and didn't fit me particularly well.

Oh, and I bought a K181 last night for about $48 (I had a gift card which made it $28) on Amazon, so I'll have a review of that some time next month in comparison to AKG's other closed headphone, the K271, and maybe a Sextett and DF for kicks. It'd at least be somewhat of an indication to me of what AKG can do in regards to a consumer headphone, discounting the Q460.

tiesto still not that good. he has couple decent tracks. i have no idea how he became popular. armin van buuren is as somewhat popular but atleast lot of his stuff sounds good and i like it and think he's an overall much better dj and producer. all i see tiesto as is just basically a pop cultural idol.

Whats interesting is that a lot of AvB's photo shoots show him wearing AKG headphones. I think AvB would have been the better candidate than Tiesto in my opinion.

Really?  I haven't seen any of those...
I've tried looking closely in some of his music videos and live shows but I can't quite figure out what headphones he normally wears.  I don't recognize the brand...

Here the AKGs are being sold at FutureShop.
Essentially the same store since many years ago, the split on products between the two stores is annoying some times. And that $10 difference in same product.
