And now for something completely different...

So I'm going through my music library picking out ideal tracks to feature in the my next few reviews...  Earlier this evening, I come across a song that I have never heard, by a band that I do not know.  That's was weird in and of itself.  But here's the kicker, upon listening to it, I'm realizing that I REALLY LIKE IT!

It's Burning Up by Alpinestars.  Have you guys ever heard of them?

I don't believe I have ever heard of them.

(looks like obob is multi-posting in here....lol)

Finally finished reading this thread. What a read, even though the last bit got a bit too American for a Canadian like myself

A while back I ordered a pair of Mingda Meixing MC845-AB amps. Specs:

Output Power: 95W x 2 Class A
Input Impedance: 500kohms
Output Impedance: 4ohms, 8ohms
Input Sensitivity: 900mV
Power Consumption: 270W
Frequency Response: 10 Hz - 30 kHz, +/-1%
Vacuum Tubes (per pair): 845B x 4, 6SN7 x 2, 6SL7 x 2
THD+N: ≤ 0.5 %
S/N ratio: ≥ 90db
Dimensions (L x W x H) per block : 48 x 49 x 55 cm

Well, I was told, after the order was placed, there was a manufacturing delay. No big deal. A month later they said the amps were being built and would be shipped within a week. Yay! I was then instructed to send payment a few days later, and I did via Paypal with my AmEx. Happy times. Then two days later I was told the payment wasn't sufficient, that costs and shipping charges had increased, they need an additional $180. My "I'm being jerked around" alarm starts buzzing. However, considering that sometimes these things happen, I sent $180 more. A week goes by, no shipping notice. I email them, they don't reply. I wait 3 more days, send another email, no reply. I call their office in Hong Kong, at 1pm their time, it goes directly to voicemail. I give them 3 more days, no emails, no one answers. So I notify Paypal, they open a claim. Then I get contacted, within 3 hours. Imagine that? They claim they sold out and would have more next week. I reply, telling them I no longer want the amps. No reply. Paypal says they're working on resolving the conflict, said I should wait and the product will be sent next week. I tell Paypal I don't want it anymore, I'd been lied to and was tired of waiting. They don't care, they aren't going to do anything.

Sooo, I call up Francine, my pitbull at AmEx and give her the whole story. She says "don't worry, I'll take care of it". The next day, AmEx shows a credit for my full amount, and PayPal is angry! I get stern language, claiming I had circumvented the resolution process. I said, "tough nuts". The following day Paypal tries to charge my AmEx, AmEx blocks it. They then try to take the money from the bank account attached to my Paypal account. My credit union, for all intents and purposes, gives them the finger, because I have all electronic withdrawals on that account blocked. They threaten to suspend my account, I tell them that's fine because I have two others. At that point I guess they decide to just take the money back from the seller, because the people in Hong Kong contact me and they're very upset. I tell them "get bent" and give them the contact info for my attorney. Damn, that's just too much aggravation for a pair of tube amps, ya know?

Sounds like you narrowly avoided being screwed.....and not the way you'd like to be either!

Never good to lie and make the customer wait. It's just insulting and glad you got your money back. I had similar situations before and had my credit card take back my money (for DVDs I bought under false advertising). When Household bank reversed the charges they were emailing me like crazy. I was like "all you are gonna get is my middle finger. Now sit on it and do a 360 rotation ."

Now that I think of it I remember the DVDs. I use to watch Crayon Shin-Chan with my Dad when I was real young on Channel "Kiku" a Japanese channel here on the islands. Not sure if it's still live or not. It was one of my absolute favorite shows and extremely funny. It was subtitled in English but the fact that it was in Japanese made it all that much more funny. Sadly I don't seem to be able to acquire it in Japanese with English subs. I'm not really a fan of the English version or Chinese. Just not that funny in comparison....

Glad I didn't order anything from that site a while ago - had forgotten about it too.

Also - GOTTA LOVE PAYPAL, ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT THE CUSTOMER! (and their delicious money) As I've said for years now - they don't give two flips as long as they don't have to eat their commission, and they love their stern language because they just bully customers into getting their way. It's really pathetic. +1 for good banks doing their job though.

And let this be an example: the manufacturer has figured out how to utilize PayPal to fuel their scams, but PayPal is the real trash-eater here for going after the money and threatening the customer. Also, any online/catalog vendor who charges before shipping is to be avoided (it violates some laws (at least in the US) if my bud who works distribution is to be believed); usually the item will never arrive. :xf_eek: This doesn't mean on FS/FT here, or eBay, this means like examplestore.com and they charge and don't ship.

Glad you got it all sorted though - :)

It's sad but then again if you know "the Power of Persuasion" you can get your way. I even talked Pay pal into reimbursing me for me return shipping costs on top of my refund and original shipping costs . I'm like "this is BS the item was falsely advertised on your website (eBay) and I have to pay for return shipping on an item that was not as described? I'm sure Sennheiser would not be thrilled that you are openly allowing this to happen and at customers expense...." lol.

There was a head-fi thread a while back that talked about the bizarre customer service practices of some of the Asian audio companies - ie, going weeks/months with no communication, blowing through promise dates, etc. I just don't get that. Common sense would say that if you want to sell products half way around the world, then you darn-well better have GREAT communications and customer service - in fact, it better be FAR better than your competition that is in the same country as your customers. Yeah, I know the prices are good, but if you can't communicate to your customers, then don't bother trying to sell to them!

I just listened to Burning Up - sorry - not really my cup of tea. Too much low energy angst, not enough throbbing bass line and ripping guitar riffs...

Hmm, maybe you're using the wrong cans, LOL.  It was just a pleasant surprise - to find something I never knew was there.  The video for that track is a bit bizarre.

I don't usually take a lot of crap from people or companies. Ironically, I'm a real *****cat when treated with respect, I'll even go out of my way to be understanding of any issues a company might have. Having problems with production? Let me know, I'll wait. Need to get in some parts? That's cool, just drop me a line. You fell out of a tree, broke your arm, and can't solder for a couple months? No sweat, have someone email me to let me know, we can work something out. Ignore me? Lie to me? Treat me like a mushroom? I'll get medieval and go out of my way to be a PITA.

My friends will tell you, I always try to be a good person, but I'm not necessarily a nice one. A local bank manager is terrified of me. The bank made me angry over tons of little fees and screw-ups, I was in there almost every month with some problem or another. So, finally I'd had enough and went down there and demanded a cashier's check for all my money, because I was taking it to the credit union. At the time they weren't waiting for anything to clear. Instead of doing this, the manager insulted my intelligence by telling me that I'd signed an agreement stating I'd give them 3 business days to give me my funds, it was 10am on a Friday. I told him, no, I'd signed a document dealing with the availability of funds in lieu of pending transactions, but there were none. He told me I was wrong, then I asked to see the form. Well, he rummaged around his files, looked on his computer, and then claimed the paper I'd signed was at the central office and I'd have to wait until Monday. Horsehockey. So, I thought for a minute, then dialed a reporter I knew at a nearby radio station (on speakerphone) and asked him if he'd be interested in a story about a prominent local bank that, for some reason, wasn't allowing customers to close their accounts. You know what? I had my check in my pocket and was walking out of there in less than 15 minutes.
