@Joe

I have nothing to add ;)
Madoka isn't flawless, but still super good.

Finished Mushishi!
Gets my seal of approval :)
Really fascinating world and characters.
Some episodes might not be as interesting as the others, and it's a bit weird that pretty much everyone who is not a Mushi-shi looks almost the same, but that's just a minor flaw.
Overall it's a more sad and slightly eerie experience set in a really really interesting world.

(man these lines are cool)

I need an adult here!
Is the whole monogatari series really that good or is it just overhyped?
If I would happen to start watching it, with which of all the series and movies do I need start?

Or should I watch Chuunibyou instead? :/

In terms of production value, monogatari is really good. If you like SoL that's a bit more serious you may very well enjoy it.
To be honest I kinda like bakemonogatari, but I found nisemonogatari really quite boring. It's definitely overhyped, but so are all the non-obscure anime in my eyes, so don't listen to me.

Making curry for dinner.
This is the third or fourth time I'm doing it, and was able to do it quicker than normally. I believe I am close to mastering this dish and adding it to my standard repertoire (right now that's just udon (soup) and yaki udon).

And SoL would be? Slice of life? I'm brainfarting right now.

Curry is a pretty broad term.
What kind of curry?

You are correct. We use the abbreviation SoL quite often here.

Curry is curry to us ignorant westerners!
The kind where you add beef, onions and vegetables to a large pot and add broth, curry powder and cayenne peppers, and then just kinda let it sit on the stove for a while.

The monogatari series is all about the dialogue. That's why I related it to Tarantino movies. There's a little bit of action in there, but its just really, really dialogue heavy. You'll know if you're going to like it within a few episodes if not the very first one.

You would start with Bakemonogatari -> Nisemonogatari -> Nekomonogatari -> Monogatari 2nd season

Oh and Chuunibyou is good, and worth watching. It's specials were kind of funny.

Chuu2 is typical kyo ani BS. If you can stomach that, then be my guest. Frankly, Kyokai no kanata is the best kyo ani anime in a long while, since K-On S1. Yes, I just said that.

@soup person, everything said about the monogatari series so far has been spot on, and the draw for me is the crazy ass SHAFT animation. And toothbrush.

Wut? Dialogue?
Wow, that is really not what I expected. In fact, that sounds even better!

Hmmm okay. I'll give it a try since I'm not that much of a KyoAni hater :)

Dialogue heavy with crazy SHAFT animations?
Wow, I really have to see that for myself.
And toothbrushes are always a plus, I guess.

This. S1 was so much win, the execution for everything was amazing. Then they just went into more-blob-no-story mode

@tilpo, someone on twitter said that Planetes anime didn't do the manga justice? Does your opinion match his?

I do not know.

I have read the manga, and it was awesome. But I haven't watched the anime. However a friend of mine who's a fanboy of Planetes does confirm this, although he does say that the anime has some really cool added content.

That kinda sucks. I downloaded Planates to watch and now I find out the manga is pretty much better.
