No singular reason. The Audezes were up and coming at the time so lots of improvements through production. HE-400s...well unique story here.

I had a much better write-up in my PMs but it seems to have been deleted.
Rev.1 was dark, rev.2 had more treble >10k, rev.3 was exceedingly bright, and rev.4 is really not rev.4 but just reverting back to rev.2. Exact same sound.

The mom-and-pop operations seem to suffer quite a bit of QC.

We use redshift around these parts.

(same thing though)

On a side note, any other companies putting out ortho's other than Audeze and hifiman?

Holy fakking schiit, its a duopoly. Boys, we need some competition over here.

I'm sure some companies are cooking up prototypes, but the two here simply have more experience (and with HiFiMAN direct access to a lot of the harder to get quality materials - you'll have to read the 5-LE thread for that) as of right now. 5 years is still a pretty short time in the grand scheme of things.

tl;dr - it's a big fakkuing hassle.

Woah! IOS has F.lux via jailbreak?!? That's amazing, I used to use it when my pc hurt my eyes real bad, but then I became a mild videophile...

I wouldn't be surprised if V-MODA is cooking up something with a planar magnetic or electrostatic. They always seem to be on-top of their game......and always release teaser photos/news every now and then.

Oh man do I remember the days when people spent 5+ pages discussing stuff about the M-100's when Val released a preview photo.

Stopped following after the first hundred pages. Funnily enough almost all of the thread has been put on my block list.

I really doubt they have the resources/know-how as of right now. In a couple more years, who knows? But it really requires a bit of research and experience.

Bought Hifiman leather earpads for my Somics.  They cost half as much as the phones themselves and are two sizes too large trololol.

As long as they don't fall off and are comfortable~

Sound is airier than before

Lol, I think vmoda is a bit too focused on the mainstream to make an ortho...
Hence the name and general sound signature?

True. They're working on Revolver at the moment, and Milano was mentioned as their end-game headphone, so we'll see.

Change of pace: which non-gain O2 op-amps do I swap if I want to change the op-amps later on?

Top left one. Switch it to an NE5532, OPA2134, or any other recommended opamp.
i actually have a spare 5532 if you'd like to have it :)
