iPod earphones -- audio quality tip

It physically hurts me when I see people using the stock buds with their iPod's...
I haven't even taken them out of their package for fear of what deadly curse they may cast on me.

I can't even imagine what would happen if someone tried to follow this advice with the old stock earbuds rather than the new stock canalphones--as waylman seems to be implying

Just to clarify, what comes stock with the iPod are earbuds. What this article talks about are the
"In-Ear Headphones" which are sold separately as an accessory:

And guys, please stop slamming something you haven't even taken out of the packaging. Considering these are stock-buds, the sound is borderline decent. If earbuds weren't so damn uncomfortable to me, I'd probably even use them...

Yep--for stock buds, they're really not that bad. I can't use them simply because they feel like someone is sticking a searing hot spike in my temple, and slowly twisting it back and forth while at the same time spinning it counterclockwise and hitting the end with a sledgehammer (I have the same problem with the Senn MX 400's). But the sound quality is ok.

I used to swear by the Sony E-837 earbuds because they were the only buds small enough to actually fit in anyone's ears

(well, that along with any bud in the E-series ending with a 7, actually

They all had 13.5mm diameter instead of 16mm)
