AKG Q701, Hifiman He-4, Grado RS2i, Beyerdynamic DT880, Denon AH-D2000, Sennheiser HD650, Sennheiser HD600 - Need Help!

Out of the ones listed in the 1st post, I've owned them all except for the Hifiman and Denon.  My comments:

AKG Q701: great mids and highs, but to me, not enough low end.  But really, I don't like any of the K501/601/701/702.  I actually prefer the K240 Mk II to all of these.  And Sextetts too, btw.

Grado RS2i: I think this is my favorite headphone at the moment.  I use mine with comfies because I think they are a little bright (and uncomfortable) with the stock bowls.

Beyer DT880: I really like these too.  Very balanced, but for me with my slightly larger than average noggin, they clamp a little tightly for long term wear.

Senn's: I don't know, but I've owned all at one time the HD535/555/595/600/650.  There is just something about Sennheiser treble that I don't like.  (Not enough resolution?  Detail?  Not immersive enough?)

But everyone's ears are different too.

So what happend? What is your opinion of the q701 for classical music?

Hello Slayermag2, thanks for messaging me. Well for starters, the Q701 have HUGE cups, and I mean huge, like easily 6-8 inches in diameter. My ears are large and have no problems, and the headphone is very comfortable. The headband is a little bit uncomfortable, but only due to the notches/balls on the headband. You can easily pull the notches off, but the notches do recede over time, and will get more comfortable. I was using the Alessandro MS1i's and it was very uncomfortable, so this headphone is great in comparison (Grado's are very uncomfortable).
Your biggest problem will undoubtedly be your music selection, as this headphone is great; no fantastic at Classical and Rock, it is not so good for Dubstep or bass heavy music. Q701 will certainly have more detail than your K240's, but you'll lose some bass. If your okay with the trade off, you'll love the Q701. Look into the HE400 for bass heavy music, but for classical you'll prefer the Q701. Oh and the Magni is fine for the Q701, I'm currently using a Asus Xonar Essence soundcard, which is much less powerful than the Magni.

Hope this helps,

Thomas
