Yamaha EPH-100

even though for a while it sounded like it could

Wow that's Exactly how I felt !

Well I found a cheap way to import CKR9 Ltd from Singapore store - £145 delivered minus duty tax

http://store.treoo.com/main/audio-technica-ath-ckr9-ltd-dual-phase-in-ear-earphone.html

Huxley I think you are right but it's going to be difficult without my Trance fix longer it goes.
Going to wait out on more Duoza and CKR9LTD reviews.

Wow that's not bad, still more than double of the current price of EPH100 though and with import tax you can add another £30 on top. So the total would roughly come to what I paid for the Ortofon eQ-5 like 3 years ago.

Douza would be cheaper but the hugeness of them just puts me off, just looks like there is no way to get deep insertion with them. Also from what I keep reading the Douza have rather relaxed treble like the Tenore, maybe even more so. That will not help with the energy that's needed to make listening to Trance fun and engaging.

Lifted Andreas

Thanks I saw that already. Unfortunately it does not answer our one question - can the Duoza do better 3D stereo separation than eph100 with Trance genre ?
I'm guessing the lack of answer is no.
Need to get further opinions.

BTW seen this eph100 v crk9 ltd ?
Very interesting.. Need little more confirmation on 3D stereo with Trance and I'm sold. I really want there to be something like the eph100 and More.

Umm, I think I qualify to comment :D

I've had all three of those iems. The 9LTD is better than EPH100 in stereo separation, sound stage and frequency balance, but the CKR10 is slightly worse than EPH100 in separation and sound stage, but similar frequency balance. 9LTD bass is much tighter and more detailed than EPH100, and mids and highs are more detailed and balanced due to tight bass. Overall 9LTD is great for Trance, better than CKR10 and EPH100.,

Yeah I mentioned that too in my post.

Thanks for the CKR9LTD quote. Shame that they are over triple the price of EPH100.

Not of much use really, it's a bit subjective as i have phones here that sound 'better'
But still don't match the eph100 for trance, not anywhere near it for me.

We need a trance addict to give us an appraisal, then i'll make the move like you did

I agree.

Right now I'm loving my X3 + EPH100 like never before!

I'm guessing that T.R.A.N.C.E. is a Trance-phile and hence his name.
One of the reasons I have taken good notice of his comparison.

  Hey fine folks

Where is the best place to buy these bad boys in Canada at a good price? If anyone has any ideas, would love it if you would share, please and thanks!

Cheers

I'm from Canada and I got mine from Audio Affair (see link in Lifted Andreas' post). It was the cheapest I found them to be (compared against Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, and kakaku).
Shipping is very expensive though, but the taxes are waived.Plus you get 2 years warranty.

Yeah, the shipping kills the deal for me :frowning2:  without shipping it comes to 120 CAD, which is a great price I think. Oh well, thanks anyway :)

I expect to receive my pair this week. I can't wait to get them!

I'd like to thank 'archy121' and 'Lifted Andreas' for the discussion on the 3D issue with Trance music. Because I own the Tenores as well, and share the same feelings about their performance with Trance. They're very good, and they do punch way above their weight...but it lacks some energy with Trance as you guys mentioned. Personally, I preferred KC06A over them, because I found them to be more lively and energetic. I'm by no means an audiophile so I can't get into the SQ lingo, but with Trance, the KC06A has given me shivers more than the Tenores

Unfortunately, one of the channels on my KC06A has failed (build quality is great, except those frickin' straight jacks), so I'm really looking forward to hearing the Yamahas! These will be the first "expensive" IEMs that I buy. I'd never thought I'd spend this much money on an iem a year ago!

If Trance is your thing than Money Well Spent.
In fact I'm having a very hard time find a more expensive/refined earphone with same 3D stereo separation.
You will love them.

After 3 amazing years, my EPH-100 finally bit the dust. There's something loose in the Y-split housing as the left earbud won't play sound unless I hold the cable coming out of the Y in a perfect position. Does this sound fixable?

If not, I love these earbuds so I'm probably going to grab another pair. But I figured I'd take a quick look around at other options first. Anyone have any recs for similar sounding earbuds worth taking a look at?
