New Audeze LCD3

Are the diaphragms still the same or have they been upgraded as well? They said they will change the stators but retain the diaphragms. Just thinking that would be a good time to replace the diaphragms also however if not necessary or really desirable then probably just go with the fazor upgrade. I asked them to send the form to do the procedure. I feel so nervous getting surgery done to my beloved LCD3s!  ;0)

I already got a reply back from Audeze in regards to getting the upgrade done and it is indeed $250 BUT they also put new pads on and that would be nice. I think I am going to go ahead with the upgrade as I am very curious. When I get them back I will report on any aural changes and improvements if yall would be interested. What wi ll be difficult will be not having my phones for however long it takes them to do it. Hope I can  survive without them for a few days!

Make sure you ask them to give you the firmer pads then.
Probably why they change the pads also so there is more room for the ears.

Same diaphragms used between all the LCD-3s. Confirmed by Audeze via email today.

This isn't looking good.. the more I wear these headphones the more the pads are getting compressed and staying compressed and the worse the ears touching the fazors is becoming. I emailed Audeze about it who said to try the suede pads but they have the same internal material (so it won't make any difference) or to send them back to get the fazors removed. The fazors have brought the drivers 6mm closer but it seems to me nothing else has changed to the design to account for this. I don't think this fazor thing is going to fly as it is.

They said that once the fazors were installed there was no going back. Are the pads you have the soft pads or the firmer pads? I was already concerned about that with the fazors being 6mm farther out. Sounds like it is a must to get the firmer pads at least. I may just hold off for a while and email them to ask about this problem. I wonder if they could put some "X" pads on which were designed for the fazors to start with?

FYI.... On the LCD-X that I had and sold, the pads were noticeably less firm than the pads on my LCD-3. My ear contacted the Fazor too, and it was beyond annoying. Also tried the microsuede pads. Didn't like them, thought they changed the SQ too much. YMMV

I have seen two pad thicknesses on both X's and 3's - the new Fazor 3's have thicker pads at the front and back; same as the newer X's and 3's i have seen.

I am not sure that there is softer or firmer pads. I think there is just one kind. Mine are very soft. Especially at the front there is very little support there, the pad compresses down a lot there. The first couple of days I don't think they were touching as often but now that the pads are worn in there doesn't seem any spot I can put the headphones where they don't touch. I have little ears (I think), I can't see how anyone can possibly wear these if they are all like this. The LCD X has a new shell so its possible they moved the driver back. With the LCD3 since older LCD3's can be upgraded to fazor, it seems they just added it as is with no changes to the shell.

Its too bad because they do sound great but its becoming painful to wear them.

I don't think the shell is any different as i have both LCD-X (with new pads) and LCD-3 261 with older pads at home - definately a difference in thickness, all round - specially near the front.

Wow bummer. Well I will prolly just stick with what I have and either pick up a set of "X" or wait for the LCD4 or whatever they end up calling them. And my pads are getting kind of crunched in at the front especially where they fit over my glasses (duh) but long as I position them right they don't hit my ears. These phones sound great so I don't want to risk the ergonomics of fit even though adding the fazors probably does add even more SQ. I am going to email Audeze about this though before just giving up on it...

Are the "X" pads thicker and more firm than the LCD3 pads?

Not sure.. mine were built on 19th March so they should be the correct pads for the fazor. I have asked Audeze if there are firmer pads but they all went home now I think, aint replying anymore.

Hmm hard to say - my old LCD-3's (261 serial) definately have less padding than my new LCD-X; the new LCD-3's i have had in store have the thicker padding too - same as XC's too..

Although my demo pair of X's from last year are the same as my 261 serial LCD-3's - so they have definately revised it; although if yours is a 271 serial with fazor then i would expect it to be thicker anyway..

Could you post a pic?

I have 10 days to decide. I will be 20 minutes from Audeze HQ the first week in May. If I do the upgrade to fazors, I would ship ahead of time and then pick them up in person when finished.  May I'll do a poll in a week and see what you folks have to say about worth the $300, including one way shipping, to update them.  The idea of the fairs touching my ears is not sounding good either.

I guess I could do it the other way around, bring them with me, go to Audeze try out the fazor and ask about ear pads and if I decide leave them to be updated and then they can ship them to me. If I do it this way, I will have 20 days for you guys to have more experience and for me to decide whether to give it a try.
