New Flagship from Audio-Technica: ATH-W3000ANV, 50th Anniversary Headphones

Lets not get heated, it's Audio-Technica's right to decide what to type in the products, and everyone's own right to have preferences. = ) Apparently Limited Editions are one thing, and Japan editions are even more limited and special with the traditional way of lacquer.

Not too popular, ehh... From PriceJapan.com:

"We are told by audio-technica that they are already receiving too many pre-orders of this model.
We may close order-accepting, earlier than supposed, unless they increase production limit.
( updated on Oct 22 )"

=D Glad I ordered mine early.

O.O now THAT is one fast selling headphone. But I'm not surprised at all. I was expecting the headphone to be released next year...now I have no money to buy it

Hehe, I ordered almost instantly when I had the chance. Been waiting for this. = ) It's not that much more expensive though, than ATH-W5000? The MSRP at least...

Gah, not looking good for me buying a new one then. I have zero dollars at the moment.

Eagerly awaiting some initial impressions from early adopters. While I love my 5000 and 1000x, hope it will be different and worth owning all three.

Will still take a while... By the way, how would you describe the differences between ATH-W5000 and ATH-W1000X?

I'm looking forward about the impressions and pictures as well.
I'm a bit disappointed there was no update to the Earsuit line though, an ESW11 with upgraded driver technology and more comfort would be very welcome to me.

There's an ES88 for the anniversary if that's what you were thinking. But yea, it's probably not better than ESW10JPN or ES10.

My thoughts below are listening to my setup with Yamamoto HA-02 amp, Benchmark DAC and   Denon SACD player as source.

W5000 is sweet sounding with very good instrument separation and sound stage. The bass goes very low, is  textured and detailed, but lacks punch like Sennheiser HD 650. Treble and female vocals are the key strengths of this phone. The W1000x has a smaller sound stage with smoother sound, has better vocals with male singers and has more bass quantity.

They sound different enough for me to own both, though if I were forced to keep one, it would be the W5000 currently. My impressions may change once the W1000x burns in completely as I have used it only for about 30-40 hours so far.

I love the AT sound signature and can listen for hours without any discomfort or fatigue. Many times, I prefer to listen to my AT rig over Stax.  Thats why I am so tempted towards investing in one more if it sounds different.

I don't think the ES88 is part of the anniversary models, but I've seen it yeah.
Judging from the model numbering and pricing, it seems to be targeted at the mid range.

I do think the metallic housing looks very nice, but I'm really looking for something higher end. :)

I see, appears that I made the right choise with ATH-W1000X then. I suppose the price of ATH-W5000 sounded a lot back then and I was afraid that it might be lacking in bass. Thanks for the thoughts!

Would be interesting to know what's behind the numbers of each model. W2002 represents the previous anniversary year, but other than that, it gets more complicated. = ) Could it be that the smaller numbers are supposed to be more or less all-around phones, like W11R, W100 and W1000? Supposedly these all sound very different though... Based on L3000, it would be some sort of bass monster line and ATH-W5000 being luxury one with carrying case and all. I really hope it is like that! xD
