  I love mine even with stock pads.  Have had  them since last Xmas .  Hear things on almost all my vinyl that I never  heard before as far as details in the music itself.  Have a pair of pro4AAT's also and I have never really warmed to them , mainly because you listen to single album at a time because they weigh so much.  Also they seem to be really lacking in the bass dept also .  Maybe they need to be burned in for like 5 days or something.  Everyone should get the Tony Bennett version of the DJ100 which they charge an extra $70  just to have his name stamped on the outside.  Must be expensive paint!!!

Well, nobody knows for sure if they've tweaked the sound, but most likely not. I imagine they're charging more because of the extras. They include a case, the album download and a detachable cable.
$135 on Amazon right now, so an extra $55. Even if there is a slight improvement it may be worth it, but I haven't tried them yet.
 
If I didn't have the DJ100 already I'd have bought it for the detachable cable. Yeah, I'm weird. If I bought it and found zero differences in sound then I'd probably end up returning it. Not sure.
 
I would like to buy one just to experiment with different cables. Even the idea of having a straight cable is good enough for me. I don't need FOUR DJ100's. Yes, I own 3 of them. One is open. A bit overkill I'd say! One of them I got on sale for backup at $50. I plan on recabling that if I can, but it's a major pain.
 
 

All the specs are exactly the same for both models if you look on the Koss website.  DJ the best under $100 phone out there.

One of them is modded to be open? I bet it sounds better than the closed model and the whole signature is probably more airy.

Today I change the plug. Peeling off the cable was a total pain in the ass. Now I don't have any issues with the cable. 100% satisfied with them.

Yeah I took my first DJ100 and put the driver in the HD-497 shell. The 497 is an older Sennheiser open headphone (I always hated) that was fairly cheap when released. The driver fits perfectly. The only problem is that the stock pads are uncomfortable so I had to make some extra modifications to attach better pads.
 
This little experiment is what made me believe how capable the DJ100 driver is. When open the soundstage is quite huge. Without a few other changes the sound when open is a bit more fatiguing and the mids/treble are MUCH more forward. I had to use some masking tape to limit the amount of air the headphone gets. When doing this you can almost tweak the sound to your liking. I think I need to change the cable from the Mogami. I bet an HD-650 cable would be a good match since it's perfect for the HD-598 too.
 
An open DJ100 has many similarities to the HD-598 believe it or not!
 
Does anyone know of any open shells that would work for a 40mm driver? I nearly destroyed a UR-40, but the DJ100 driver won't fit. The DJ100 fits inside a Grado SR-80, but I want something more comfortable.
 
I'll have to check into the AD300 I have.

I don't suggest the HD-497 shell and hope to someday find another shell that works with the DJ100's 40mm driver. Something with the comfort of a Sennheiser HD-598/HD-600.
 
Now that I have a closed AND open DJ100 I need to compare them side by side to get the sound perfected. I want to try to keep the stock signature as much as possible but make the soundstage larger.
 
BTW one funny thing about the DJ100 when open is that the sound clarity seems to improve a lot. It's already good enough to begin with.
 
Hopefully Koss will release an open headphone with the DJ100 driver. Maybe one already exists? Who knows...

Anyone tried these with movies/games yet? Used them today for two movies and prefer them for movies to the KRK KNS-6400, HD-598 and M50. XB500 for movies was good for a laugh I didn't EQ it with my receiver though so it's hardly fair.
My Onkyo receiver seems to really like the DJ100. Never realized how much static there was in the DVD of "The Great Escape" before. I think an open headphone is a must for games/movies, but the DJ100 do quite well.
 
This week I'm going to recable a pair with an HD-650 cable and see how it goes. The HD-650 cable is a PERFECT match for the HD-598 (enough to put it past the K501 on my favorites list!) so it should be good for the DJ100 as well. Maybe not.
I've found a few cables that actually make the DJ100's sound fatiguing. I hate making cables so the HD-650 cable is good and cheap for lazy people. It seems like most of the wire I've tried changes the HD-598/DJ100's signature too much. I also don't want to spend too much money on recables.

Wish I could have gotten my T50RP to sound good. Spent maybe 30 hours on modding them and got nowhere. I think perhaps I had the first ever un-moddable pair!
I had small glimpses of how great they could be, but couldn't quite get there.
 
I think my pair was a lemon because out of the box they'd fatigue my ears within 10 minutes. Like major ear ringing. Once this happens, any further modification is a waste of time for the day since you can't listen to the results very well.
 
Has anyone heard any DJ100 clones yet? Anything that sounds similar? I was thinking it has a few similarities to my Sextett LP which I finally got sounding good. My source was killing the sound quality on them and bloating the bass.

You should go to a metal work shop and have them just drill hole in the DJ100. Like how one member on here modded his D2000 to be open. Just have an opening cut int he stock shell.

Tonight I was bored and put some spare DJ100 drivers in an XB500 enclosure
Not a perfect fit, but pretty close.
 
One reason I did this is that I always felt the XB500 has a pretty good soundstage (due to the pads I think) and it was extremely comfortable. I hate the XB500 without EQ, but with a massive EQ change it's good for the price.
I'm just testing things now though. Surprised that the sound hasn't changed too much. Thought it'd kill the sound, but it hasn't. No loss of bass at all. The lower treble is a bit more bothersome though. Probably just due to the DAC/AMP/Mogami cable.
 
To me, the XB500 kind of feels like a semi-open headphone. Thought it might be worth experimenting as an enclosure for the DJ100. IMO the DJ100 is perfectly fine as it is though.

Recabled two pairs of DJ100s in the last few days.
 
I first listened to a DJ100 in an XB500 enclosure with a Mogami cable and the treble was extremely painful. Only during specific songs though. I don't think it was the cables fault because I now think Mogami is fairly neutral.
Too much air inside the DJ100 pads and it seems there is too much treble or something? Weird. I had the same thing happen when I used some SRH-840 pads on the DJ100.
 
I then tried an HD-650 cable (since it's a good match for the HD-598) and I got a severe loss of detail and the sound was much less clear. A tiny bit less fatiguing, but it made the sound a bit too dull. I eventually just came to the conclusion that the XB500 enclosure is not a good idea until I figure something else out. Maybe putting foam over the driver would help.
 
So I took my DJ100 in an actual DJ100 shell and recabled it with Canare Starquad. Awful wire choice for the DJ100! Adds too much excessive mid-bass and makes the whole sound less clear. I listened to it for an hour and hated it. Changed the DJ100 to something it's not. I don't really think Canare is very neutral. It does seem to be nice for AKG headphones if you need something to change a tiny bit.
 
Switched to the Mogami and it's perfect. I thought maybe it was boosting the mids/treble on my HD-598, but I don't believe this to be true now. Right now it seems very very neutral. With the DJ100 it makes the sound more clear and detailed without changing it's signature much really. No extra mid-bass or added treble etc. It's the Mogami W2534. This time around I was lazy and just drilled holes into my DJ100 instead of removing the stupid mono/stereo switch.
 
BTW I also bought the BeyerDynamic DJX-1. Has many similarities to the DJ100 (even the driver looks similar) but it was defective and I had to return it. It also works with the M50 pads. Strangely enough it also sounds like a DJ100 straight out of the box. I think both headphones need some burn in before listening to them.
 
Tonight I plan on getting some Dynamat and seeing if it does anything for the DJ100. Maybe. The other material I've used is a bit tricky because if you use it in the wrong area or too much it will alter the DJ100's sound too much.
 
I might recable my 2nd pair with Belden 1192A, but I don't want a DJ100 with a cable that's like a snake. That wire seems to offer the larger soundstage and the most detail, but I think it's less neutral than the Mogami. For interconnects it's kind of fatiguing. I sure wish all wire was really neutral, what a hassle
