Thanks fellas!! I've been interested in these for a couple of years and just finally came into the right mix of available funds, available Sig Pro, and nothing else higher on my priorities list. I've came close to buying a pair a few times in the past (one of which I had to back out when I found out that one of the previous owners had been a smoker-- and judging by what a colossal pain it was for other members to get rid of that nasty smell once it's set into the Sig Pros, I'm very glad I rescinded my offer), but the stars finally aligned here.
Truthfully, I'm trying to find that perfect set of closed isolating headphones. I have the T5p and Alpha Dogs, and have owned the Sig DJ and many others at various times, but I haven't been able to find that right mix just yet. The T5p is a world-beater in my opinion, but it lacks bass quantity (which is increasingly problematic in noisy environments), has decent but not stellar isolation, requires amplification to truly shine, and isn't particularly ergonomic in terms of its portability, so it won't work. The Alpha Dogs are highly impressive, superlatively comfortable, and very effectively isolating, but they are too big to carry around and also require amplification to get good sound. The Sig DJ just had too much bass and (in my probably unpopular opinion) was a singularly unattractive headphone, but was otherwise very good. Here's hoping the Sig Pros check all the boxes!!
My initial impressions are quite positive, with the following provisos: the bass (midbass particularly) is more exaggerated than I prefer; the mids are bit more recessed than I'd like (I listen to a lot of guitar-driven music and really want to hear the texture and tone of the guitar lines); and I might need to try out the cord or tissue spacing trick on the pads that someone listed earlier, as my left hear touches a portion of the headphone and gets sore. The first two I plan to monkey around with EQ to see if I can get them in line (and there have been positive reports of the Sig Pro's amenability to equalization), and I'm working on subtlely changing the headphone position to see if I can get the comfort up to speed on the left side.
Overall, looking for truly world-class sound in a closed, isolating portable headphone is apparently one of the most difficult things to find in our hobby, and these puppies do a damned fine job, at least so far. I want to do proper comparisons when I've got the time, but my initial thought is that these will be sticking around for a while
.
Thanks to everyone for all the great information you guys have shared thus far, and I look forward to being able to contribute my own info soon!!
