- diy imod (47uf black gate nx/ mundorf wiring)
- diy custom lod to rca (mundorf wires)
- diy battery pack (12pcs AA @ 14.77vdc, 2100mah)
- modified fiio e9 (sprague/nichicon/ elna/ ero caps)
- yahama hp-2 / yamaha yh-1 vintage orthos (dampened/ denko cable/ amphenol plug)

Nice orthos.

You might want to check out the Objective2.  If you mod the power supply to run it off your battery pack it will put out just as much power as the E9 into those Yamahas and save you a little space.  I use mine mostly as a desktop amp but it works great with my YH-3s.

Those Vibe Vaults are pretty nice. Plenty of colors and very decent pricing.
The Rx is very nice. The Tributes are bass rich IEM's - not boomy, muddy bass, just deep and articulate bass. The Rx does not add or change the tone of the bass - which is a good thing. In fact, I thought the bass from the iPods internal amp was good, but the Rx makes it punchier without any distortion if I'm playing it loud. I guess the teeny iPod amp just runs out of steam too soon. Another thing that I like about the Rx is the soundstage. Man, did it open up! Much wider than before, and sounding much closer to my home stereo system. I don't think the Rx is "changeing" the sound, but rather is passing it from the iPod in a much cleaner and accurate state without adding anything of it's own - unlike the iPod which really added noise, lessened the dynamics, and distorted/clipped the material. The Rx is dead quiet - no noise at all. In all it was a great upgrade. The Tributes and the Rx have great synergy and are a great mix. Deep articulate bass, exceptional midrange, and crystal clear highs. Love it!

I know that before the iPod with the aluminum VibeVault was pretty heavy to carry. Now with the added weight of the Rx my portable rig is much heavier, but they are now paired together forever. I won't be going back to just plain iPod + headphones. Next is a better Line Out Dock, as this one is a tad too short. Any recomendations?

DIY one - you get exactly what you want then. There pretty simple if your a bit handy.

I see your using the rubber O ring method of amp banding. One of my personal favorites!

I wont be going unamped either. Amp all the way! Some people at my work thought it was an external hard drive hooked up to my ipod....

yup, i made a diy battery pack using 12AA ni-mh 2100mah batteries in series with aluminum enclosure and acrylic panels. You could buy an energizer xpal that can supply 15vdc if you want a transportable e9, i choose the diy route since it costs half than the xpal, I do get 14 hrs playtime with it but my imod has around 7-8hrs playtime (flac/ alac) only . Thanks! i love my ortho+e9 combo, made the e9 portable since i'm always on the go. i put it inside a dslr bag

Saw it earlier in this thread. Love the excessiveness of it. How much does it weigh? Do you have a drooping shoulder on one side?

Interesting, i do have friends that already have the O2 about 2 weeks ago, around 2-3 units already...i haven't tried it yet but will do once we have a small meet up. Glad to hear it can drive these power hungry orthos...i do have a mini 3 HP edition and a protector but it cannot drive my yamahas properly.

i'm hunting for some yh100 and hp1 orthos. It feels nice to use these vintage headphones that are way older than myself...lol

i haven't actually thought how heavy this is, probably 2lbs or more...i can't hold it using one hand when i want to navigate through my ipod, i always use both hands...

Awesome.  Nice to see a DX100 on these pages.  I so wish that ibasso would make something which would play apple lossless files.

Well, I´ll be damn. I believed it to be a good idea to leave you guys for a few years, but like an alcoholic, now I know I shouldn't return to look here again. Looks like I got bitten by the audio bug again. Oh my! Anyway, after looking around for a while I decided to post a pic of my rig. Here it is:

The Philips is the 4GB (more like 3.5GB) Gogear Ariaz, but a crippled version with no FM radio. I got it for around $40 here in Mexico, mostly because I had those really cheap $10 mp3 players at the time and this thing plays FLAC files. I have some vynil rips in FLAC format and wanted a player that could do them justice. The buds are Sennheisser and I got them for around $50 and I like them a lot, but perhaps I'll get some ATH or Senn cans sometime this year. The phone on the other side is a LG A200, with Foobar/Nero encoded m4a files. I just did that because it has a really nasty hiss whenever audio is played and for some reason my Nero files have a very high volume and that kinda helps me mask the noise when I play music with it (or videos, for that matter, so perhaps it's a signal to noise ratio issue). Anyway, I have mostly techno, R&B, blues and jazz on the LG phone, wich is kinda bass heavy also and sounds pretty much okay with such music. On the other hand, the Ariaz has a bunch of metal, prog, punk and classical rock in it, along with some books in TXT format. Perhaps I just do that to justify the fact that I have two players in my pocket any given time.

Anyway, here's my rig. Impressions are welcome as allways.

Love it. I read about here a few pages back as I was trolling around here. I got a lot of great ideas from here - including the idea of needing an amp. Can't thank you guys enough for opening my eyes and ears to this world of amp'ed iPods. I could never go back now.

I may end up making one - they do seem easy. I just don't know if it's worth the trouble when you could buy the Fiio L9 for $15.00. We'll see.

It plays ALAC but not AIFF. It also runs Android which means you can download an app from Android marketplace that will play AIFF

This is the million (nowadays Billion) $ question, how do players like neutron and power-amp sound , compared to DX100 native player?
