That depends. When are you planning your next acquisition? She will notice it and Google the model number and determine what offsetting value she deems fair, including some penalty. You notice that your cans have a badge on them that says "Hifiman HE-500?" Well she can see that just as well as you can and will do so for anything new that she sees.
In case you guys are in the market, here's a video of some of Forza's cables for the HE series. They're pretty stellar for the price. I'll have a review coming soon.

Now let's see who buys into the cable voodoo. I'd rather DIY a sexy cable than spend tons of money on a "Litz" cable (or whatever it's called) or some other fancy name. Looks and ergonomics are much more important than "ooo this is .0000000000001% better quality copper"

Have you found one yet that matches your Macbook Air nicely?
My stock Hifiman copper cable looks very sorry next to my laptop... I quite like look of the the Forza audio cables. Looking forward to Austin Morrow's follow-up review.
This might actually be my plans for 2014... Install a headphone socket in my Mini-X amplifier. Buy a new headphone cable for my HE-500 and then add a selector switch to the Mini-X so I could use it interchangeably with speakers and headphones.

+1 for plusSounds cables. They offer varieties of cable and sleeving options. While I did re-sleeve my stock "silver" HE-500s cable, it's still ever so slightly microphonic. And long. The plusSounds cable (Echo Series) is soft and supple, not to mention the perfect length for me. No way I could make a cable like that.
So yeah, if you've got the skills, go DIY. Fortunately for the rest of us there are plenty of options.

I think Nimzerz was expressing that you're not going to get sonic improvements just microphonics, visual and comfort improvements. I wouldn't classify microphonics with the conductor but instead to a bad choice in insulator or sleeving. I wonder which rocket scientist at Hifiman chose the sleeving for the stock silver cable? I wonder if this person actually uses the cans.
FYI: I find that most of the microphonics occurs on the section of wire between the split and the cans.
