So the Refurb MTPC just arrived...

I'm glad you posted. I just took a look at the right filter and it's missing. All i can see is what looks like some kind of film and remnants of glue. Sigh, That right mesh did look a little wonky when I took these out of the box. I guess they are going back to Monster. If the mesh wasn't necessary, they wouldn't have put one there in the first place. No wonder the sound was a bit off!

I wonder what price Monster will be selling the refurbished refurbs?

I can see remnants of glue on my refurbed as well! Although the mesh filter is fine on both pieces.

For the price I really cannot complain. If the ear pieces ever fall apart again I'll probably just glue them myself, or maybe reshell... can you even reshell dynamics?

I just got of the phone with Monster's CS (which is excellent btw... ENGLISH native speakers).

These have a 30 day return window, and a 90 day warranty. If you RMA them, then the replacement is still going on the same 30 day and 90 day windows, it doesn't get reset. Don't use the online form. I tried that method once for a different matter and they never got back to me. Just call them directly at 1 877 800-8989 to initiate the RMA process.

I've decided to try an RMA since I have just enough time in the 30 days to get a replacement and see if it'll fall apart again. If the replacement is garbage than I'll go for the return. Anyways, I've made a very tiny mark on the cable so I can tell if they have just sent me the same pair with a new mesh glued on.

So if you want to do a RMA for any reason, you better hurry.

sweet, I just received 16 emails from Monster that my order had partially shipped out. I received my MTPC today and the cleaning fluid (which I would've paid for in shipping costs anyway) on Friday. Oh well.

EDIT: by 16 I mean 52. They just keep coming!

I just received my MTPCs today, all the tips are included and everything looks good. Well, everything looked good until I put on some of my Foam supertips, and put them in my ears. Okay, they sound like Turbines, but better - as expected. Still not really my favorite sound signature. I took off the supertips and suddenly I notice that there's something stuck in the middle of my right tip. Uh oh. Upon further examination it appears to be the metal mesh on the channel of the Coppers - the right one had fallen out completely, and I can't reattach it. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this going to be a problem? This is just a wax guard, right?

No, that is not a wax guard. Without the 'wax guard' thing, your Coppers won't sound the same. Do not remove it. The metal mesh doesn't really affect the sound quality, so if it fell off, don't worry. I've taken apart and experimented with 4 Gold, 3 Coppers, and 3 regular Turbines before.

Quick fact: Monster uses a cheap mesh material to tame/shape the frequency(which affect the highs) of the Gold and Copper. The mesh material sometimes vary in size(from IEM to IEM), which is why some people complain about the unbalanced sound.  This mesh material is not found inside the regular Turbines.

Another interesting thing is I bought a refurb Gold and there wasn't any mesh material.

I should be able to check mine out tomorrow night, can you describe what piece is important to the sound and which piece isn't?

Wow. Not even the cheapest brands can have that unreliable of production. That really deters me from ever wanting to pay proper price for Turbines, even if they really are great (to be determined by me tomorrow

Reshelling dynamics is a no no. (at least from the date that this was posted) The fact that this isn't a tube based IEM, they can't reshell. Doesn't allow them to push enough air through the nozzle.

Actually UM reshelled a SF5 EB! and I'm sure if you're willing to cash out a little more they'd be willing to experiment with a MTPC/MTPG

That's very interesting, because my cleaning fluid came 4 days earlier and in a different package.

And I also received 52 of the same email messages from them. Let's hope their system got hacked and will let me have my MTPCs for free.

Lets put it this way. I wanted to reshell my Tributes however they said that there isn't a small enough nozzle to make a custom IEM. SF5 EB is a hybrid IEM that can still push the same amount of air as a Balance Armature through a bore about the same size as the TF10s.

Mine arrived today! The Copper itself looks fine, but some of the tips are kinda scratchy. The only problem I've had so far is finding the right tips. It tends to fall out of my ear all the time.

With some of the experiences the people here had I was pretty dissatisfied with the company, but my shipment arrived, my IEMs look like they're mint, they sound great, and they came with tooooo many tips. Yay!

I usually hate monster products but I can't help but fall in love with my coppers. The sound signature is exactly what I want. If they break down in the future, I'll try to find an upgrade or just throw my money at monster and buy a new pair. I hate you head-fi ! You made me into an audiophile !
