Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)

I've been using mine daily for about a month... perspiring quite a fair bit, and i've yet to see any fading of the words on my pair? I've run my finger nails across the wordings and found them to feel suspiciously like they were engraved rather than painted on? The letters don't pop out like I expected paintings to be hmm... Bought mine from Japan just last month~

I've only been wiping them down like once or twice a week, usually if I've been perspiring too profusely. Otherwise, I don't baby them overly, nor do I abuse them... And just to clarify, my perspiration's pretty corrosive, having worn down 3 pairs of Oakley spectacles where the arms touch my ears in the past couple of years~

Have you been rubbing on your pair trying to get a genie to appear?

The wordings started fading only after a couple of days and they were long gone. I am now talking about the coating on the plastic. Made in Japan? What a joke!

No and I probably won't. Thinking about coating it with epoxy. :)

Other than that I really have no complain about the EX1000. It just sounds fresh, dynamic and perfect to these ears.

Lol... if you do, I'd advise caution where the air vent is :)

I have no idea on how many hrs of music I have put on the EX1000, but I would guesstimate around 1,000 hrs at least. This beast sounds amazingly better and better to these ears.

I need to prepare for a letdown from cable breaking when that fatigue will ultimately kick in. Have a feeling it is near. Sony why do you make it hard for us to get the replacement cable?

I've owned mine for several months now and really can't believe the quality out of them. I use them with comply's and mostly listen to rock, soft rock and occasionally classical. I've been through the W4, 535 and most recently the UE900. Nothing can seem to compare overall to these EX1000's. it's really a shame they don't make them anymore and cables are hard to come by. They really are incredible. I think it must be the look / fit that turns most people off as they aren't conventional or low profile like the other top end brands.

Sony could just release a new version with revamped design for the looks while maintaining the same technicals. Fit is not a problem for me in fact I like it. The thing sticking out reminds me of the ogre in Shrek (which BTW my favorite movie). Hey who cares as long as it sounds fresh, airy, live and dynamic as the EX1000 does. What I am disappointed about is the quality of the coating for the housing as mentioned in my prior posts.

Cables can be found on eBay~ The earphones are selling for a ridiculous amount of money though~ I got mine in Japan for about $600. Still very expensive :frowning2:

Mid-tier or high-end should be based on performance (trust your ear) not on its price. I wouldn't fall in that trap and crap. :)

I agree to an extent. I also trust my ears and my current IEMs make the EX line look like trinkets in comparison. My point is there is a fine line between Mid-tier and High-end. You have a point that it doesn't necessarily mean it has to be reflected in the price tag. But then again that can also be the case :).
