I just wanted to start this post for a few reasons:
1: A way of saying hi to everyone from a new member and new fan of higher end headphones
2: To gush about all I'm discovering
3: To maybe remind some of you about the rush of discovery

I live in Saskatoon Saskatchewan and quality headphones are very limited here. I was able to pick up a pair of AKG K271 MKII (after falling for the skullcandy/monster marketing) and loved them but spent about a year with them without learning about amps etc. I was using them mostly directly connected to my iPhone.

Then I had the good fortune (and the end of any hope of a real fortune) of discovering head-fi.org. Now I have had some luck and was able to spend enough money to get a set of RS2i phones and a RA-1 amp. All I have to say is wow, the sound is melting my mind (rock/blues/roots/funk/soul fan) I am now waiting for my ibasso d12 to arrive and I think that will have me set up nicely for a while.

Since I am brand new to all of this it is like being a child in some ways. Everything is new. A vocabulary I need to discover, skills to learn, techniques to master.

Best of all music I've been listening to for years all feels brand new.

Thanks.

Hey I'd like to welcome you, being new myself.
I've been lurking on here a while but never post.
Its all quite interesting, as you learn a lot. Also, a good way to rid yourself of all that extra weight in your pockets (sarcasm). Anyways, enjoy the journey.

Thanks everyone. I do wish there was a "head-fi 101" thread or something like that where experienced members would contribute to a glossary explaining the terms or even have a topic of the month and lead discussions for all of us just learning. So much to learn about, I'm not even sure why but I feel the need to buy a soldering gun....

Welcome! Soon the lingo will become second nature, and you will hear what people are describing. It is really cool to feel like the artist and the band are right next to you, or just drop your jaw at the clarity or realism at something. Even for electronic, you are literally getting closer to what the artist intended. Goosebumps are a definite possibility when I listen to good gear.

I wasn't referring to that 1000 post spam thread Bob. I was insinuating the daily influx of the same buying advice threads that ask the same damn questions.

I think what I find more annoying than the threads themselves, are the crap responses and the blatant disregard of what the OP was looking for. Like people looking for huge bass, and people come in with responses for headphones with notoriously weak bass.
