It's interesting. Mid-to-high tier headphones don't seem to have much headband extension. I use my HD215 (cheap closed phones) at some 40% extension and wonder who the heck is going to use that full extension. Germans? Giant Germans?

It looks like maybe the wire routing to the cups is all internal now? That would be a major aesthetic/design improvement over the 840. Never can tell from promo pics though.

i noticed that to. maybe it will be worthwhile. do you know if tehy are replacing the current srh750dj and srh840 with these or are they just adding them to the line up of headphones.

I hope the headband is better than the 750DJ.  I had the 840 and loved the quality feel and comfort - just didn't dig the sq.  Absolutely love the 750DJ sq but the headband is a fail.  It flattens when spread causing me to adjust to near max extension in order to fit properly.  Every other headphone I own I only have to adjust a few notches.  Chassis is a bit of a squeak monster as well.  I did a lot of work on mine to address these issues but finally gave up and transplanted those wonderful drivers into my heavily modded M-Audio Q40 chassis.  If the chassis is the quality of the 840s and the drivers have similar qualities to the 750DJs... that would be a big win for me!

Weird. The Shure headbands seem to be hit or miss when it comes to comfort. The one on my SRH440 was starting to really hurt. My solution was to cut off part of a black sock with a hole in the toe, slip it over one of the cups, center it on the headband, and pin up the slack with a paper clip. They look totally ghetto this way, but I have no shame. I wore them on campus today and didn't catch anybody staring. The comfort on my dome is worth how ridiculous this addition looks.
 
Seeing those bumps on the headband makes me think of the K70x and the hoards of people who despise the bumps on that headphone's band. Hopefully Shure's implementation won't inspire such ire.

Ooohhh new cans.  I'm curious what these sound like.  I liked the SRH840 but didn't want more low/mid fi headphones cluttering up the little space the missus has alloted me for my headphones.
 
I do prefer the look of the 840 but if it's sonically better the SRH940 wouldn't be bad.  I'm still looking for a decent portable pair of headphones.  I was rather impressed by the Ed8 but I'm just not comfortable wearing headphones like that when I know I'm going to be rough with them so the SRH940 could be a new option.

Looks like Shure listened to some of the complaints about the 840.
Not really a padding problem its biggest problem was shape and extension for the fit.
 
The 550 DJ looks to be sorta like the SRH 240 but for the DJ models.
So basically like how there is the SRH 240 and SRH 440 there will be the SRH 550 and 750 DJ.
 
The 940 I only see it as a complete replacement to the 840.
Velour pads is a bit surprising since very few closed backs use velour pads.
Gotta wonder if there will be a extra set of pads included as well for the 940 like the 840 has.
 
I was thinking maybe Shure would try bringing out a open air model next but I guess not.
 
So I wonder if the 840 will go out of production now.

Considering the 840 is like only a year old, competes at a different price point, and is extremely popular - I doubt it.

Very cool. I love my SRH 840's and I'll be picking up a pair of 940's the first chance I get.
 
I hope they manage to couple great SQ with easy drivability like they did with the 840's. Everywhere I go, my 840's go with me. They're the quintessential portable fullsize headphones, atleast for me.
 
I'm not really feeling the silver finish tho. Black is a bit more discreet.

Liked the SRH840 but the price of these is a bit steep. Let's hope for some awesome pricing just like we had when the 240/440/840.
