Hi,

which one of these headphones  (in the title) offers the best sound quality and bass?

I like listening to hip hop, RnB, pop, a little rock and have begun listening to dubstep.

I would prefer amazing sound quality over a "booming bass!"- I want to feel the bass but I don't want it to overpower the music.

Thanks in advance :)

(Sorry if this is a repeat of another thread, if so, could you please send me a link to the other thread)

The M50 has very good bass but manages to be very clear and coherent at the same time. however to be honest all these three are a bit bloated in the bass department. I would recommend the m50 though, since its the best value among the three.

I wouldn't say bloated, more like deep and well extended, especially the SRH750DJ.  All three are exceptional choices so you really can't go wrong with any of them.  It boils down to what sound signature would you prefer- aggressive with crisp clear highs(M50), warm smooth midrange with slightly laid back signature(SRH840), or deeper bass extention with an aggressive signature much like the M50s(SRH750DJ)?  Th choice is yours.......(pick the Shures!)

I said slightly. Its just that these phones do not have good bass control that is demonstrated by phones such as the HD650 or the monster turbine golds. However i would still say the M50 is the best among the three. It is furthest that you can go in the bass and treble heavy sound department without being totally untrue to the source as it is still designed to be a studio monitor.

Bleh, a u-shaped response curve makes for a terrible studio monitor. I much preferred the sound of the Shure 840, but had fit issues with the headband.

This, the 840's are by far the best Monitors here, the 750DJ's are exceptional for those genre's however.

Every M50 I've ever used has felt untamed in the low end department, it's also ONLY bassy emphasised where as the 750DJ's are Clean and Punchy, the 840's are slightly heavy in that area.

from this review, it seems that the srh750dj would be your best bet, and there is even someone selling em on ebay for $125

840 no doubt. The M50 would probably be the next best, but there's a big performance gap from the 840's to the M50's imho.

I own the 840's and my M50's are on the way (but I have had a lot of experience with them) and I can tell you that this is false.

The 840's are great, as are the M50's.. But they just sound different. The m50's have better high & low end than the 840's imo..

Depending on the type of music you listen to and the source, you'll probably find preference in one over the other... But to say there's a big performance gap is an exaggeration.

To be honest, I prefer the sound signature of the M50's (I listen to a lot of hip-hop, r&b, soul, etc).. Add to the fact that they're way more comfortable and lighter (the discomfort the 840's cause me is not to be understated).

I have the SRH840, and the bass isnt bloated at all. I love these headphones, and they sound great. I'm actually enjoying, and feeling my music rather than just listening to it.

the shure srh750dj is built pretty bad. but the srh840 is a tank. take that as you will.

the 750dj indeed has the poorest build quality, but the most well rounded and fun sound.  I'd take the 750dj over the 840 or m50 for music purposes any day.  However, I'd take the 840 for sound editing or monitoring ( DESPITE THE INSANELY POOR COMFORT LEVELS ) over pretty much any set sub $500 that I can think of.  I was never a fan of the m50 and never understood why it was so popular :\

The 750dj is fun, engaging, well rounded and just a pleasure to listen to despite some comfort and build issues.  I wish shure would hire me to design their next set so head fi'ers can actually be happy with their designs for once.
