Stop asking question and just order one.
.
I own Turbine, MS2i, ES7, M50, and a few Sony's plus K702 + DT990/600 on their way.   Currently, I'd say the M50 is the phone I'd pick first for general music listening--and after the 2 new phones arrive, I'd probably still pick the M50 first since I can plug-in directly to my sources unamped.  M50 offers great sound, good comfort (not great), versatility, portability (it folds), at such an affordable price... pro's uses them for monitoring & mixing... they are that good.  What more could you possibly want?

I'd probably sell out the Turbine, MS2i (for RS1i) and give the Sony's to my kids.  The M50's a keeper and I'd probably get another one if these are broken pass its warranty.

Cheers...

before you do, you could also look at the m-audio q40s. The bass is a bit deeper, but doesnt distort. Also, just like the m50s, you can put dt770 velour pads on them for added comfort. I havent heard the m50s, but from what I've read they are similar to the q40s. I am very happy with my q40s. my .02

Hi guys, I ran across some recording forum ( not quite remember the exact the name of the web-site) and these guys stated that the NEW ATH-M50 cans are not the same as the ATH-M50 that they bought in 2008. The new ATH_M50 sounds much darker than the 2008 series.

While there is a lot of hype, I am about to order one to see  how good they are at the price point but I need your feed backs first. Thank you.

They might be referring to the the M50's that come in a blue box vs those that come in a white box. I honestly don't remember which is which, but there's been a couple debates on whether or not there really is an audible difference between the two. I believe the newer M50's are suppose to be more balanced--not darker--so the bass isn't as overpowering. I don't know which pair I got, but I'm very happy with mine just the way they are.

A lot of websites have jacked up the price to $150 (USD), but you can still get them for $110 if you look around. Just make sure you know whether you're getting a straight or coiled cable before you order, cause some people (like myself) can't stand how long the straight cable it

Well, thank you for the blue box vs the white box stuff. I have read it somewhere and I really forget which color should be a good one.
Yeah, the M50s cans have straight cables and the M50 cans have coiled cables. Some dealers do not even know that.I happen to learn that from B & H web-site.

I was like you at first with the straight cable but now I like the lazy boy recliner so much I cannot use the coiled cable anymore. This may be a remedy for my laziness.

Eh, some noobs aren't willing to go much past $100 at first. Not the best advice. But to the OP, they are highly regarded headphones on here so just order them when you can, you won't be disappointed. Burn-in and then amp them if you must but you shouldn't need to.

ACDOAN,

Where did you buy the headphone extension cable? what are its specifications?

You can check it out from AA web-site. It's nothing but a PBJ cables with teflon sleeve and I am a PBJ/HERO/SILVERS  TREAK  die hard fan. AA also carries Cardas extension cables ( too warm for me)
