Hi everyone! I'm completely new to this site. I told my friend I'm looking into buying a pair of headphones and he referred me to this community. Hopefully some of you can give me some good advice.

I'm looking to buy a pair of closed over-the-ear headphones for listening to mostly house, trance, chill-out, and trip-hop as well as occasionally listening to classical, orchestral, and jazz. My limit is $200.

Any thoughts?

I was thinking something from Shure would be best for me? I heard Ultrasones are generally great for trance and house, but terrible for classical and jazz.

I have the AKG 701, Grado 325i and Senheiser HD-650. The AKG for me is out of this league (currently collecting dust.)  Between The 325i and the HD-650, I find the Senheiser to have a better bass and detail, however I find the Grados to produce much more engaging vocals.
 
 
To the point: From all of the following: Audez LCD-2 & 3, Senheiser HD-800, Grados PS1000 and GS and the HE 6 & 500; which (at least the ones you know) do you folks find to excel in that category?
 
Or for that matter, other cans.

The open Q701 with its very large sound stage is, in many respects, the polar opposite of the closed "V" shaped EQ sound signature of the M-50.  The Q701 is an excellent value at about $230, but your own personal equation will determine if the very different Q701 is worth it to you.  For me the answer to that question is a very firm "yes".
 
They will certainly do a better job as monitoring/reference headphones than the M-50.  However the Shure SRH 940 and some of the upper end closed Sonys will do that work better than either.

The Shure SRH 840 is probably the best can to cover all the bases you mentioned.

Hello to all, im new in this forum and need your help. Im planning to buy my first full size headphones. I just listen to music on my PC and have not an amplifier. So i need to make the right choice and buy a phone that will play well on a simple sound card. My budget is 150-200€. Mostly im listening Trance (bass) music but other genres also. I dont want too much bass i prefer quality not power of bass! So what is for me the best choice?

I would like to get my hands on a DAC + Headohine amp. I have been looking at Maverick-Audio Tube-Magic D1.
 
Is there a better option for the same price range ?
 
Would it be better to get a dedicated DAC and a dedicated headphone amp ? (for more or less the same price).
 
Do not need portability. And I am on a budget. Currently got Sennheiser HD 595. Planning on getting HD 650.

I've been looking around for over two weeks now but still full of doubts...
 
I'm looking to find some closed over the ear headphones, budget around 300-350 $, which have to work with my phone (preferably without an extra amp...).
I listen a lot to soundtrack or orchestral music (love Two Steps from Hell) but occasionally might switch to some more modern bassy music. 
 
Any suggestions?

Hey everyone, just made an account to this forum today since I got a bit of a problem.
 
So I'm looking for a decent headset for LAN and gaming sessions. Now I already have DT770 + a quality sound card + desktop mic so no need to suggest those. As I said, I will use this headset only for LAN events and in important matches. The desktop mic and the Zalman clip mic both take too much background noise since I have 2 dogs and 2 birds so I really need a headset to play.
 
I've tried Sennheiser PC 360 and Sennheiser's ear pads just don't fit me, for some reason, I can't really play with the comfortably. My budget is about 170$ and so far I've been looking at Razer's Tiamat and Gameshark and not much else, so any recommendations? I prefer closed and around-the-ear headsets. Logitech I just don't trust, Steelseries seems kinda cheap build.

Hi I currently have the m50s and am looking to upgrade. I listen to hip hop and house music mainly and I really like the bass of the m50s. I'm looking for a "super" version of the m50s if you will. Not looking to spend more than $300. Closed or opened design but closed preferred (so I won't disturb others as much, my m50s already leak sound clearly at the volume I play them at lol) but if open gives me a better sound then that's ok too. With or without amp is ok too. If they need an amp, what would you recommend for the best synergy (portable amp)? I use a clip+ to listen my music mainly. Thanks!

Hi guys, I've frequented this site over the last 4-5 years, and have always appreciated the insight this community brings, and the helpfulness of its members. my first pair i got were beyerdynamic dt700 Pro-80s, and have used those pretty exclusively. I picked up a pair of RE-ZEROs to wear at work and not look odd (it's a conservative company). I'm back perusing this website again because I feel that my dt-700s/80s have been wounded. It might be too many times I've accidently sat on them/abused them, but the sound quality of them now seems to have deteriorated significantly. I loved them, though I thought the bass, at times, was a little too overwhelming and frankly ruined the music. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I've checked out all the main "guides."
 
Music Genres: trance and trance and more trance (originally liked rap, hence the dt-770/80s purchase) - also, play video games (all genres).

Amped/Unamped: Unamped. I would consider getting an amp if it was pretty small, under $100, but otherwise, assume no amp.

File encoding: MP3 - 256-320kps

Price Range: $150 - $300.

Closed/Open: Closed - I use these guys while at home, for casual listening, or while on the airplane. (also need "over-ear")

Past headphones beyerdynamic dt770 pro-80s, and hifiman RE-ZEROs
 
My "short list" - I'm open to extra suggestions, but I think I've narrowed my choice down to:

• Beyerdynamic dt-770 Pro-80s: liked my first pair enough I'd get another if there weren't more compelling choices for trance.
• Sennheiser HD25-1 IIs
• Beyerdynamic DT1350
• V-Moda Crossfade M-80/LP2/M100 (i dont know anything about these other than waht was in thad PDF summer buying guide)
• Audio-Technica ATH-M50
• Sennheiser HD 600/650 (hear these require amps, so prob not)
• Beyerdynamic DT 880- 32 or 250
• Beyerdynamic DT 660
• AKG K501

Assuming that you want closed cans, "no amp" severely limits your options in this price range.  You might want to check out the Senn Amperior and Sony MDR 7520 & Mdr-cd900st.
