Here's the story.
So I let my buddy hang out in my room and he wanted to do some listening on my room setup (E-MU 0404 + PC) . So while I was studying on my laptop and he was listening and surfing on my desktop, he "forgot" he had them on and got up to go to the bathroom, thus dragging the cord at a perpendicular angle at the plug and forcing the cans off his head. I freaked out and immediately inspected the cable from the cans to the plug for snaps or a bent plug, and low and behold, the entire caplet at the plug was bent 30 degrees. After replugging them in to see if the damage had affected the cans at all, I found that the right side wont play unless you bend the cable at the plug end completely, and even when I do that, theres very slight pink noise.
Im obviously very displeased with my friend now, but I'm glad he didn't do the same thing to my 501s or my uncle's w5000s! He apologized and said I didn't have to scrap my headphones and he would pay for them to get recabled. But after light research we couldnt find any services or individuals who could do a decent recabling for less than 150. I know it's his fault, but I'm not going to extort money from him. Luckily for me my girlfriend bought me a pair or sr-80is that I can use for now, but I still love my original 80s and would like to save them if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
