what the difference between Audio-technica ATH-CM700 BW and ATH-CM700Ti

Thanks for great reply.
Would a short headphone extension cable help at all protecting the CM700? I received a short extension cable with my V-Jays a while back and leave that attached to my Clip+ to protect its headphone socket (some have reported they can get loose fitting). I guess if you don't mind the appearance, sticking on some electrical tape might protect too?
I've not heard anyone complain about the fit of the Yuin PK series which I guess is the smallest (along with those Sunrise buds). So I've assumed bigger, whether deeper (as with OK series) or wider diameter (as with most others) make it a bit more uncertain whether you'll get a good fit. Maybe that's an unsound generalisation. Sorry to hear the Sennheisers weren't a good match for you fit wise or sound signature wise.
Wonder if the new Audio Technicas will address the issues you've had.

I've just had one PM from someone who is still interested so I've gone ahead and ordered two via Amazon. Estimated delivery here 4-8 December.

Chris, I am very interested.

It seems plugonit are 4 pounds cheaper http://www.plugonit.co.uk/product/audio%20technica-ath-cm700-bw and charge 5 pounds for delivery, so amazon.co.uk is the best price haha.

I'm in Australia and leaving for the United States on Thursday, so you will have to ship there, I'd like one or two pairs, up to you, I'll highly appreciate the "forwarding service"

Penartur, so, is there any difference in sound between the different CM700 models? or is it a close call?  How many pairs have you gone through? I guess I'll just be careful with the cables and keep these in a leather pouch.

I'm not able to notice any difference, but i'm not an audiophile. Theoretically, the casing material should not affect the sound.
I have two pairs of these, CM700Ti i've purchased two years ago (replaced the plug a couple of months after purchase, replaced the cable another couple of months later, and constantly recabling them since that), and CM700BW i've purchased some months ago (these still work... because i'm not using them).

I guess the only way you will able to keep these working for a couple of years without recabling is to use them only on a great occasion. Leather pouch will not prevent sniffles to tear apart, you know.

The CM700BW are on their way to me.

OK so... when the cable eventually breaks then... do you have some advice on where or how I can replace it?  Perhaps I could tear apart a different earphone with a teriffic cable, the E888 cable is pretty cool I love the feeling of it, or perhaps a Denon IEM with that cloth cable and solid looking jack... Hmmm or I could send it to one of those companies that will upgrade to a silver cable. :)

Thanks, interesting you can't notice any difference, I thought BW would have better bass (less resonance there) and more sibilance.. -shrug-

Yes, something like that.
Because i've never found a great repairman, the connection between the replaced plug and the replaced cable always wears out after a while... but there never was any problem with connection between the replaced cable and earbuds.

Listening to my E888's now.........   .... I am so excited!....

really... if the CM700 sound better than these I will be so impressed.....

p.s. I am confused why E888 are so impopular here, really, I have no reason to lie, they kill my EX700 in soundstage, and can almost match my Stax SR-404 in natural sound.

Maybe because of this: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22732 ?
It seems that E888 are just slightly better than MX500 i had some years ago. And CM700 are incomparably better than MX500, they are from different league.

Hey Kiteki:

Although I’ve been lurking around Head-Fi for awhile now, this is my first post.

Anyway, please give us your impressions of the ATH-CM700 BW, that you have on order from the UK, whenever you get the chance - or time - to do so. Although, as my Avatar suggests, I already own the previous Audio Technica model ATH-CM7Ti of these earbuds, I am very interested in acquiring the updated ATH-CM700 model. Thanks, in advance, for any info that you can provide.

After a few years, the difference became price, the bronze version of the Yuin OK1 killers is now very cheap

Hi Kiteki:

I don't know if ATH-CM700's are Yuin OK1 killers, but according to an article in Hi-Fi News and Record Reviews (talked about in the Head-Fi thread tiled "Hifi News Earphones shootout" from April of 2009), the ATH-CM700Ti’s may be Sennheiser IE8 and Shure SE310 killers!!!! After Googling around a bit, I found this link to the article: Hi-Fi News Test Report.  Even though it will cost about $6.30 to see the article, it may be well worth the read. (I will probably download it later tonight.)

Anyway, just to add to the enthusiasm of a new set of phones!!

I've been let down a bit by Hughes. I ordered a third set of CM700s (two sets for Kiteki) and received what looks like a demo set (battered box, foam missing). So there'll be some delay before Kiteki gets them; real nuisance for him since he hoped to receive them in USA while on visit. Plus he isn't answering his emails at the moment (on his travels maybe?).
I had a go with the demo pair (I think Hughes owe me that). I'm not at all experienced with buds or in ear monitors. For these it seems you must get some sort of seal when in your ears or they sound horribly trebly and have no bass at all. When you get that seal they're marvellous. I still had problems with them working loose and falling out or feeling some discomfort but maybe just haven't got the knack yet; I probably have small lugholes which makes a good and stable fit harder work but hopefully still achievable.
I think they have a slightly bright signature and they don't have the bass that empahsises room resonance; great with timpani though.
Concerns about fit was what dissuaded me from ordering a set for myself initially. Those misgivings are still present though as I write this they're actually behaving very well...

Hi Chris, I'm back now =)  It's not a nuisance, I'll be in the US for a while (my gf's student lifestyle is cheap).

Glad you're enjoying the free demo

For sure, I'll provide my in-depth impressions on how they sound at some point.  I have Sony E888, E11, EX700, V6, ATH-CK10 and FA Marcus with me here, so I'm happy to do song request comparisons with any of these.

Wow!  Nice find.  I demo'ed the Senn IE8's at a shop at Charlotte airport a few days ago and I wasn't very happy with their sound, I certainly have a feeling the CM700's will sound better, and at 10% of the price!

P.s. My girlfriend loves that Nickelodeon channel haha.
