SR60-Mod

Just came across this article (http://www.stereophile.com/headphones/796grado/index.html), John Grado explains the difference across Grado drivers (at least on the RS1, I assume it applies to other drivers since the terms de-stress are used in the product decripts). An interesting read for those who have yet to see it.

Diaphragm, you mean. Who's up for a little expedition into the recesses of the Grado vault of secret driver-doping recipes..

I did some digging on the tracking number I got from Bila and another from another member on the forums. Thankfully he didn't send us the same one but they where very similar so I took some time to search further. Part of the tracking number of each is missing so that if you don't have one you can't look them up.

The following numbers where generated on the 13th at an APC with an expected delivery of Thurs the 16th:

9505 5000 xxxx 1164 0001 05 (mine)
9505 5000 xxxx 1164 0001 12
9505 5000 xxxx 1164 0001 29
9505 5000 xxxx 1164 0001 36 (confirmed to be another forum members)
9505 5000 xxxx 1164 0001 43
9505 5000 xxxx 1164 0001 98

All but one of them say the same thing:

Expected Delivery Date: June 16, 2011
Class: Priority Mail®
Service(s): Delivery Confirmation
Status: Acceptance

The U.S. Postal Service has received electronic notification from our Automated Postal Center (APC) in LAKELAND, FL 33805 on June 13, 2011 to expect your shipment for mailing.

the last one ending in 98 says the following with destination addresses removed:

Your item was delivered at 3:19 pm on June 15, 2011

Make what you will of this. To me this shows that Bilavideo bought priority mail shipping and sent out pms with this tracking info without shipping to some members of this forum.

Sorry to distract from this thread but many people active in this thread have their lot tied up in this. I would not have brought this up here if he had replied to pms or been forthcoming with information, and there is little course for further action that I am aware of.

Why would he have delivered the last one? The perplexing thing now is that there have been people who have received theirs recently.. Why send out some but not all? My guess is that perhaps he hasn't finished the orders yet, but the reason to that is beyond me.

It is perplexing to me as well. What it does show, save for some massive shipping error which even if that was the case he hasn't voiced any concern over on his end, to me is some level of willful deception or at the very least negligence. Maybe it means that he intends to ship these soon and is buying time away from prying pms by sending out tracking numbers but this practice leaves a bad taste in my mouth regardless of the justification.

I would never be able to leave just one driver liberated and one driver unliberated even if it meant sleeping at 3am, it'd just keep bugging me till I set both of them to rights.

lol I felt that way too, going to bed at that point was a touch decision

I think canare would work fine. It would be much more flexible than my 8 conductor silver cable. Same goes with a nice 4 conductor silver cable, they can be flexible enough that I use one on my portapros for a portable open set-up. sometimes I kind of wish they were on the grados, although my grado cable is a beauty, its a bit unwieldy and I really didn't see that huge of a jump. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference between a 4 and 8 conductor, but its nice to know I have pretty much the best cable I can get. Now, if only I could say the same for the joints I soldered.

But, yeah if I was to do it again, I'd probably stray away from the 8 conductor and put a 4 conductor similar to my portapro cable on my grados. That or leave em stock and reterminate.

OH, you said for portable use, well I think a silver cable could be used in that fashion, but I'm sure there are other cables that you can get cheaper and that will be more portable. I doubt you will see too much of a difference using an ipod for a source.

Thanks Chris! Will have to order up some more canare soon though, have only like a foot of it left after a couple of IC cables. For now I'm just going to stay with the stock cable but make it shorter. Perhaps Techflex it as well? hmmmmmmmm

Larry, everytime I see your headphones I get the idea to remove the paint off mines...
also, your headband rocks. how's the stability? I cant lean forward or back with mines, too heavy.

Leaning forward isn't too bad, at 90 degrees they begin to slide slowly forward but if I lean back they fall straight off, makes it awkward trying to drink something.

I have been waiting for Bila cups since February. I placed and paid a bigger order with him, trusting his expertise and enthusiasm, impressed by his friendliness and helpful approach. Until about a week ago he replied via PM quite rapidly and apoligized for the delay, uttering his appreciation of my patience and his wish to create shells that would finally make the wait worthwile.
Now, honestly, I think I can write my money off and say goodbye to 'my' Cocobolo and Rosewood shells. From what I learn from the posts above, I am sharing this situation with quite some people here.
It's sad, since Bila inspired a lot of people, including me, and now, what has come of all this? It's a shame. I do hope, on the other hand, that Bila is ok. He seemed such a nice and enthusiastic fellow, and I guess he really is. And yet, he might have got himself into a situation which keeps him from 'showing up' on the thread he started, inspired and kept going day after day. As I said, something has been lost. And I don't mean my money.

Yeah Cab, I second that. I may not see any of my shells or money, and yet I wish Bill well and would like to support him in his present situation. The spririts that he has cited, his commands may ignore. It might very well be that, meaning the best, he promised too many people too much in too little time and now the spirits have taken over. Sure, it's only speculation, but I am certain if he came forward with some honest information and stopped looking for pretexts, people would welcome him back gladly and give him time to win back their trust and appreciation. And again, I hope that he is in no serious trouble.

By the way Cab, your cups are fantastic with the Alessandro MS1s! You must try the MS1000 mod with them, absolutely marvellous. You know, Bila might take a break, but people who have not already done so or thought about it might just try the MS1000 mod for a change. You won't be disappointed.
