I've had my ESW9's for a while, but now they're broken and being shipped in to AT USA for repairs ;_;.

What I can say about them, was that I loved 'em with female vocals. I'd never thought I'd feel all choked up and teary after listening to just a song, but with the ESW9's the musicality practically transfuses the singer's voice directly into your heart and lets the words do the rest. On the other hand, my big ears don't all fit in the pads, so the tips always stick out, making it uncomfortable for long sessions, and the cups do get hot.

I fell out of love with them too, but it was more of those relationships where one second you can't understand why you were in it and the next you can't bear living without it. As you can tell, I'm in a bit of a rut in the second part of the relationship at the moment

.

I haven't listened to any other full-size headphones, but I have demoed a couple of mid to high tier iems (Triple/Superfis, Shure SE110-530, Denons C351-551, Sony's, etc) in stores and I can say for sure that the mids and bass of any IEM simply can't compare to those of the ESW9's. Even if they might be more technically accurate, there's a synergy in the ESW9s that beats out everything; well at least in my ears

. YMMV, so if you happen to have lots of songs with female vocals, try em out.

Even for full-size at ESW9's price range, it's really hard to beat ESW9 for perform the female vocal

I've said it before and i'll say it again....the ESW10JPNs are some very awesome headphones!  Since i've purchased these about 2 years ago, i've gone through 10-15 other high end headphones/iems but still managed to keep these around coz of how much I love them. My home rig now costs more than $10k, but at work I still very much enjoy listening to the ESW10JPNS straight out of my nano and don't feel like it is lacking (I used to amp it with RSA mustang but didn't make a difference).  Sure soundstage could be better and more holographic and highs could be a little brighter, but otherwise these are such enjoyable headphones to listen to for hours on end without any fatigue.

I got my sister a pair of es7s and really like the sweetness and warmth of the mids.
Now, I'm considering myself a pair of esw9, as I'm looking for a pair that complements my triplefi 10 and my Ultrasone pro 900. I'm thoroughly enjoying both of them, but I feel like the triplefis aren't too good for vocals and the Ultrasones are too brutally honest, at times. So now I'm searching for some headphones that are smoother and warmer; thus far, the esw9 seem most compelling. I also want headphones that are portable and stylish, but that isn't a priority. Would these be a good choice?
I'd also be interested in how much they profit from amplification; I'd be hooking them up to a Headstage Arrow 3G?

On a side note: I've heard that the esw9s have been revised over their production timeline. Namely, that their bass has become less bloated. Can anyone confirm this?

Perhaps not, TheDudeNextDoor... Bass extension never was something I would brag about on the ESW10.
