Rank the AKGs

1) K601
2) K701
3)
4)
5)

I only have the K601 and have only heard the K701 or like 15-20 minutes, so give me a few years to play the market some more and go to some meets and maybe date an AKG employee to get insider deals and I'll get back to you on this.

Maybe in a couple years they'll actually have a new product worth getting insider info about...

  • K1000 for good SQ, excellent comfort (no hot ears) and convenience to use exiting integrated amp (speaker terminals) rather than dedicated headphone amp
  • K271, for decent SQ, isolation, fairly good comfort and very reasonable price, (portable) amp recommended

Everyone knows about the K703 already! It's pretty much a hot pink K702 with a detachable speaker that says "IT HAS BASS WITH 1000 HOURS OF BURN IN AND THE HEED CANAMP!" anytime it hears the word "bass" mentioned within ten feet of it.

1. K-1000
2. K-501
3. K-240DF
4. K-340

5. K-701

I sold the K-501 and K-701. The K-501 went because it was tonally close to the K-1000, which I prefer. I do miss it, though. The K-701 was sold because I found it artificial and plasticky. The K-1000, K-240DF and K-340 make me plenty happy.

I don't think I'm interested in K1000 anymore

Wow, the K340s have a lot of votes. Wish I could find a pair under 200

Some might consider the need to use a speaker amp as being a downside of the K1000.

Antony Michaelson of Musical Fidelity is adamant the X-CANV8P can drive the K1000s. he recommends them over all other headphones.

(PS - big ask, but if anyone in Scotland has the K1000s, can I have a listen to them? Please!)

Those I've owned:

K702
K240DF
K240S

My K240DF sounds thin and tinny compared to the 702, particularly the highs. The Studio is a lower-end consumer phone designed for mobile listening and not in the same category. Still not a bad sound, just not the resolution of the others.
