Ferrari is so worth its price >: ( I want one.
I don't think price talk should be banned, just moderated.
Price/perf is a good thing to discuss too.

It's impossible to discuss price/performance for a headphone you haven't heard.  And right now, basically no one has heard these.  So price/performance simply cannot be discussed yet about the Edition 10.  This essentially makes ANY price discussion useless.

This whole thread is a moot point about a magical headphone that no one a
has heard. Has this hobby taken a turn for the worse, where we have 650 speculative
posts?
Announcing that Ultrasone is coming out with a new headphone, the name of the
headphone and the msrp are the only posts that have any legitimacy in this thread.
The rest is all fluffernutter.

I didn't have much respect for Ultrasone in the past (mainly because their headphones sound completely mediocre) but now I have NO RESPECT for them as shysters trying to trick some poor fools with this ultra luxury edition. I need to spend $3K for OFC and titanium drivers? I can get the same thing from a $35 pair of Sennheiser PX100. These phone are an utterly shameless attempt to make a $60 product and rip off people who don't know better for several grand. Sennheiser made headphones for decades, spending millions in top notch research, before they had the nerve to put out a luxury $1,200 headphone. These johnny-come-latelys pump out a $3k headphone after barely a few years in business with, I can guarantee you, no better performance than a $200 pair of Grados. The only patent they hold is for some snake oil ULE shielding "that reduces this radiation by up to 98% in comparison to conventional headphones"??  I find this whole release obscene and dishonest along the line of other audio manufacturers charging $400 for a LOD or $1000 for a headphone replacement cable. Shame on Ultrasone.

This is premium trolling.

650 is telling us ED10 is gaining popularity. Most talk about headphone today. It is a good sign for Ultrasone. Celebrity most afraid is no one talk about them.

It's possible to make some meaningful inductions from the available data. If the differences between the HD650 and HD800 were of the same type and degree as the differences between Pro 2900 and Ed10, people would be saying the same sort of things about the HD800. It should be easier to do cheap mods to bridge the gap between a Pro 2900 and a Ed10, than it is to bridge the gap between the HD650 and HD800. That says something about the price performance of the Ed10, at least relative to the Pro 2900.

It's not ridiculous. From the information available you can see it is not a drastic departure from other open full-sized ultrasones. There may be some sort of dampening in the ED10, and when we know what it is, it can be mimicked. The butterfly back can also be mimicked, but I don't think it was designed in that shape primarily for acoustical properties, so there may be more ideal back shapes.

Compare that to the difficulty of modding the HD650 to be more similar to an HD800.

That's not entirely true though, about no one has heard it

I was under the impression that the ED 10 was following the design type of the ED 8 drivers only in an open format.

The driver is not the same, accroding to their ceo.
