Luis Flores does a bunch of HE-6 mods, not sure who Preep is using though.

Nope, I meant HE-6. I've been considering sending mine to him to have mini-XLR jacks installed and a better color painted on, and maybe a few other things (I seem to recall reading somewhere, I think in this thread, that there's a series of other modifications he can do as well). He definitely does a lot of work on the HE-5 as well, though.

Having talked to Luis personally many times, I completely forgot he mods other headphones on the side!
 
What I liked the most was the leather headband replacement. mmm that is very nice with a bit more padding compared to the pleather we use now.

Just put some Audeze vegan pads on my HE6, as suggested in this thread.
 
Wow - tamed the brightness and increased the comfort. Well worth it.

No worries!

When you talk about the leather headband, are you talking about the HE-5? Because if you have experience with any of the HE-6 mods, I'd love to hear anything you'd care to share about it! :)

I just ordered the black Vegan pads. I guess it will be incomplete until I do the felt pad mod (grill mod done). It it gets me a little closer to the one thing I am missing from the HD800, it will be worth it.

I did not plan on doing it after purplegoat said 3-10 hours. Like most engineers I am OCD so it might take me double the time.

Double that again as I probably end up doing the felt mod on me HE-500s I use in the office.

If anybody is getting them reprainted, please advise. I am interested in how long it takes, cost and durability of the finish.

Only had a couple of hours on my HE6 with the vegan pads - so a little early to say too much - but from what I have heard so far it seems to have tamed the occasional sharpness in the top end of the treble. There were times when my HE6 got a little close to shrill, at least to my ears.
