Beyerdynamic DT990 600 ohm, 250 ohm or 32ohm?

FOR NOW, lol that's very true. Even though I bought the T1 and don't plan on buying any headphones to replace it, I still buy less expensive headphones just 'cause I like the sound signature.

Hey guys I'm looking to get my first serious set of headphones and I just keep hearing great things about the DT 990s, but I'm not sure whether to go with the 32, 250 or 600 OHM version and also have no idea what kind of amp I will require. The primary use of these babys will be to use them with my iPod. Preferably I'd like to use them in public as much as possible, so I'm thinking a solid portable amp will be necessary. I also tend to stick with electronic music if that matters at all. My price range at this point is roughly $400-500, but I'm willing to make some purchases in the future to update this thing. Please help a n00b out.

If you are planning to listen to music out of ipod. just get a pair of m50s and a entry level amp(<$200).  dt990 is very treble and bass happy--lacking the mid.  can't say from experience, but from what i read/heard dt990 is not really suitable for electronica/trance/house.

If you have not heard them, then I would suggest not commenting on them. The DT990s are my go-to cans for electronica. They do that type of music wonderfully.

What, the DT990 EXCELS at those very genres.

As for using the DT990 on the go, that would be a huge mistake. They are open, leak out a ton, and let a lot of outside noise in.

Currently looking at a possible DT990 purchase, so this thread is very informative to me. One question though. Would a 100 watt a/v receiver be enough to drive the 600 ohm version properly? Or would I need to buy a mid to high end ranged amp for the job?

Does anyone know, which is the minimum voltage to drive DT990 600 ohm? There is no mention about that in manual.

I have amplifier with these parameters on headphone output:
0.25 V/680 Ohm
Output power is 75 Watt

Is it enought to drive 600 ohm headphones?

Thank you
