What a bad feeling would be: reading some reviews which saying that the new LE version is much better than the old version while I was listening my three months old HE5s..........

Seeing that the new LE uses the same driver units I very much doubt that it will sound completely different than the current non-LE. Perhaps the LE-version will just bring some minor refinements across the board, updates that do not warrant a series name change.

Sensitivity is expectedly low at 87dB/1mW, impedance is 25 ohms. A detachable 2m cable with a full-size plug is standard. The velvet ear cushions are exchangable as well. The HE-5LE's weight is 450g without the cable.

I'v heard from Fang, this is true.

Hmm lots of people seem less than impressed with the he-5 I guess its best to stay clear of these companies which don't have high levels of consistency or quality control.

Even more people are less impressesed by headphones by the big companies. You gonna stay away from them too eh?

Hey Mudhole and Thehadi, enjoy the HE-5's you have now, they are fantastic phones, there will always be newer and supposedly "better" cans, but I wouldn't sweat it over the LE's, they are just a refinement over the HE-5's, same specs, same driver etc... I would say this release is for those who initially found the HE-5's to sharp, sibilant and lacking lower extension, one dimensional bass as some would say... Though for me, I have found no such issues with my pair, and I absolutely love the sound of my HE-5's and wouldn't want anything changed... If you want an upgrade, buy a stronger source, unless of course you have a good system, and still dislike the current HE-5's, then the LE sounds like a good alternative... So enjoy your cans, and stop reading head-fi that much lol!

Ill stick to headphones which are built properly and to a certain standard of quality.

And my main point was that there seems to always be inconsistency in these "hand made" headphones. I mean the wild differences in peoples opinion cannot simply be waved off as a result of poor source or poor amping. I'va always considered sound quality to be the most important factor for a headphone but that was under the assumption that the headphone is well built and durable. If it is going to fall apart then the sound quality (good or bad as it may be) becomes moot.

um. What headphone here doesn't have "wild differences in people's opinion"? Name one headphone. HD650? nope. i've read everything from thin, thick, warm, cold, bloated bass, neutral bass, fast, slow, detailed, dull. K701? not even close- artificial, natural, great soundstage, too much soundstage, anemic, rich, full bodied, thin, harsh, smooth. ATH-M50- bloated bass, not enough bass.

The list goes on. Unless you have more concrete evidence, it is quite unfair to blame the headphones/manufacturer just because they are handmade. so are the HD800 and the T1.

Who does not make high-end headphones by hand?
Sennheiser, BeyerDynamic, Ultrasone all assemble drivers and the headphones by hand, and even the coils are finished off by hand although they are wound by a machine. Only the production of the plastic parts are automated.

Differing opinions is not something specific to the HE-5s, all headphones are debatable that is why this forum is so large.

Yes, I like my balanced HE-5s and LD MK6+ very much, no sibilance and the bass is good enough for my listenning habit. But from the other side, this hobby is kind of disease from pursuing the perfection. Every new stuff closer to the perfection makes my heart itching.

At 2008's Xmas, I wanted to buy a pair of bose headphone for myself. I thought I should do a quick research from the web before my purchase, then the damn google leaded me to here..... .., after one and half year, you guys can read my signature to figure out how much I have spent.

I was mainly referring to the build quality, as I said it makes the sound a moot point for me. People have reported the wood cracking after just a few days etc etc. Then you have others who have never said a bad word about any audio equipment on this forum so when they say something is good it means nothing. Just feels too much like a lottery buying the he-5 unless it was 1 I heard at a meet and bought it right then and there after loving it.

well I agree the wood splitting thing was poor form, but HiFiMan claims they have fixed that design issue now so it shouldnt be a problem.

Fact is the price is v.good for the headphone you are getting, so a few corners will have to be cut. Thats the same for all headphones really. I understand your sentiment though, a lot of people want to stick to the safe things, and usually they dont get burned.

I always wondered, do HE-5s drive better through tube or SS amps? The low impedance/sensitivity suggests SS, but you never know.
