Should I use iTunes error correction?

I've ripped with iTunes with and without error correction, and I think there isn't really a difference, and if the CD is in mint condition, I don't see why it's necessary. Should I just not use iTunes at all? I've heard it's not the best, but EAC had a trojan in it, and dBpoweramp is only a trial. what else is there?

Thanks in advance

I think lots of the paranoia regarding ripping is way over done. I, like many, have been skeptical, but from my conversations with fellow audio geeks, what I have read, and my personal experiences, itunes does just fine.

Now if you have a cd that has a few or more scuffs then perhaps you could use db or eac but when they re-rep certain tracks because of errors it takes forever. Might as well just live with the errors or find a better copy of that cd.

As to error correction on itunes, leave it on. Takes just a bit longer to rip and supposedly does a better job with the slightly marred cds.

I am sure you will get other thoughts, this is just mine and I am using itunes on a MAC. I am more concerned about crappy cd recording quality than a bad rip.

I ended up installing EAC before I removed the "trojan".

However, I think I will just use iTunes with error correction, because it's much simpler.

also, considering i'm using the disc drive on my laptop, I doubt it would really benefit me to use EAC anyways.

I used my laptop drive with EAC to rip some really disastrously wrecked CDs. 20 hours each later, they're perfect FLAC files.

I've been using CDex for ripping which is super easy to use. I used EAC but I'm a novice so it quickly became to complicated. iTunes also is easy and works great. The big question is- can YOU hear a difference?

I think part of the problem is that the AV companies, to justify their existence make a big deal out of anything at all they find on your computer. "OMG THERE'S A TRACKING COOKIE! KILL KILL KILL!". A link on your desktop that takes you to eBay via an advertising company is damn well not a trojan.

That's exactly why you would benefit from EAC's error correction - it manages to get bit-perfect rips even from the crappiest drives. If set up properly... which can take some time and effort.

Not sure what format you ripped to, but if it's MP3, EAC can use the vastly superior LAME MP3 codec, where iTunes uses the not so great FHG codec. Personally, I rip to FLAC as a backup and easily convert to whatever is convenient from there.

I'm using ALAC, and since apple kind of invented the format wouldn't it be best to use their software for it? Also, referring to this thread it seems iTunes is the best for ALAC. And besides, lossless is lossless.
