Oh, I'm not knocking! Thanks for the offer, but not right now.

I do understand that the JDS Labs amps are really good!

My Mini3 kit ships today! I live "just down the road" from San Jose so I should have it quickly. It looks to be an easy build, too (compared to the Seventh Circle mic pres I last built). I'm looking forward to it!

I've found out, as you can read on another thread I have started, that I'll be able to see, touch, and hear prospective headphone amps when I make my trip to Thailand in March. I plan to "augment" the Mini3 with something really nice at that time (I may be in serious love with the Mini3 by then, but that's okay). I'll keep you all posted!

Thanks again! ~~~ Sara

Oh!

I meant to ask...is anyone familiar with Leckerton Audio?

Leckerton Audio - Home

Nice looking gear. Their line looks to be on a par with the best I've researched, and their prices are right in line, too. Food for thought?

Their Dac/Amp is exceeding the D10 in price. I would really be shocked it that was warranted.

Wellllll, okay. What, $30, LESS the shipping cost? I don't want to quibble, but IMHO Leckerton's prices are competetive, and I suspect the price difference is because they are made in the US. Sure, build and sound quality are other issues, that's why I asked if anyone was familiar with them. The price is close enough to anyone else's similar product to where it is moot...once again, IMHO.

Thanks! ~~~~ Sara

I use both the two phones you use exclusively (se530 and ER4P/S) and they sound great through my Pico amp.

Haven't tried anything else though

Are you suggesting that the D10 has sub-par build quality because it was not manufactured in the US? I can assure you, ibasso builds solid equipment.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

Look, I've been working with audio gear for ages. There have been as many pieces of crappy gear poorly designed and assembled in this country as anywhere else in the world. My "suggestion" was based on the "cost of doing business" in the US as compared to, say, the Far East. Labor costs here are higher, as well property costs, among other things. Those costs have to be recouped, and are passed down to the final selling price of the product. Items made (well) in the US are (usually) going to cost more than an equivalent (well made) item made in, say, China. Yes - my premise IS that simple.

I have figured out, yes I have, that iBasso makes top-drawer gear. It doesn't take much investigation to reach that conclusion.

As an aside, I consider that one of my greatest gear purchase "coups" was a Zero DAC headphone amp (made in China) that I bought a few years ago on eBay. Less than $150 I paid for the thing, and it's one of the better sounding DAC's that I've heard (no, it isn't quite a Benchmark Audio in SQ), and well as having build quality as good as (or better) than most anything out there.

Just sayin'

This looks great value:

Bearing in mind Ray designed the Tomahawk specifically around the SE530 this should be ideal for you.
