How many Melos Maestrobators are still out there?

I have been a reader on and off, but first time posting. I am curious how many Melos Maestrobator (done by Carlo) are still out there. I had my done by Carlo back in 2002 when my SHA-Gold Reference broke. I am no longer using it as a preamp, but am still using it as my one and only headphone amp.

Raise your hand if you still own a Maestrobator.

Im alittle unclear on this. I bought Computerpro3's modified Melos and am very happy with it. He did the mods himself and believe he did alot of research into Carlo's mods.

Taken from item description .....
"This particular example started life as Jahn’s Melos SHA-Gold. When I received it, with much help from many different forum members, I did a lot of research into Carlo’s modifications. I did not change the resistors or do the left channel mod (originally I thought I needed to but it turned out just to be a loose ground), but I did swap out the following capacitors:

8x AURICAP- 62036 1.0 200v .66"D x .78"L
2x BLKGATE- 60089 NX 1000 25v 16 x 24
1x BLKGATE- 60224 Std 100 160v 16 x 36
1xBLKGATE- 60087 Std 2200 16v 18 x 36

The Auricaps replaced the 4 1.5uf 100v between tubes and the 4 ICC yellow caps
The Blackgate Nx 1000 replaced 470uf 25v rubycon
The Blackgate 100uf 160v replaced the grey 100uf 160v cap about 3 inches above where the 4 auricaps are
The Blackgate 2200uf 16v replaced the rubycon dark blue capacitor to far right of the board"

So i believe this qualifies as a "Maestrobator" just not Carlos modded.

Don't own one. Just want to say I love the name. It's friggin' hilarious.

Wow... either that few units remaining or all the Maestrobator owners have left the board

Pete,

Have you tried other amps with your Grado with better results? I assume not since you are still using your Melos.

Hi Goldbear
No i havn't really, i used / still have somewhere an RA-1 clone that i tried with my old RS-1s. Wether it soulded similar to a real RA-1? i doubt it. It sounded cheap, thin and flat. (Typical of underpowered amps). I then went to the Melos and have been very happy with the RS-1 and the PS-1

The Maestrobator ? Dude, that is one seriously in-your-face product name ! Well, not in your face, hopefully.

I've got one, but it's been broken for years. Mikhail from Singlepower audio has it right now. It broke right around the time that Carlo disappeared.

Sucks.

Well, I have a Melos Maestro (not SHA-Gold) which I've modified a bit, does that count?

bozebuttons-

how is yours working? has it given you any trouble? who do you have work on it if it needs fixing? Mine hasn't worked since Carlo disappeared, and Mikhail has had it for years now.

I'd love to have it working again.

Benny from Modular Electronics serviced and upgraded my SHA GOLD a few months ago and did a great job(the price was reasonable too).

Amina-main

Do give him a call. He was highly recommended by another head fi member and has done work on quite a few Melos.
