I think he means, the jump to Gold will be a no-brainer for those who can afford it... and want to.

The distinctions between the different product versions is fairly smart. For example, for my listening purposes all I could really need is the base Zodiac. However, the addition of the mono button for old recordings, AES-in and analog-in on the + model give it a whole lot more usability for many people, especially people with say vinyl or reel-to-reel, who could then use the Zodiac+ as preamp for their entire system. If all you have is a computer and/or CD player, however, you should be perfectly content with the base Zodiac.

The power supply is already external. The question was whether we should include the larger power supply with the Gold and it sounds like the answer is yes, so I'll provide that feedback to our HQ.

Thanks all,
Marcel

Zodiac+ has a mono and a mute button. Since the digital outs on Zodiac+ are de-jittered, you could connect it to another converter and still use our clocking, which is something audiophiles have asked for, for quite a while.

Ah, thanks for that. Sounds like either the base Zodiac or the Gold would be the options I'd be interested in, then.

I wonder how that Burr Brown chip compares against the Wolfson and ESS flagships? ES9018 and WM8740 are the two chips I've the most listening time with.

Also, what sort of output stages are the Zodiac's using? Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, a quick scan through this thread didn't unearth that detail...

I've been looking for a Dac upgrade, and the Zodiac gold has really caught my attention. I'll be having a close eye on this piece, i haven't had much experience with Antelope's products so if anyone has any feedback on this dac in the future please let me know.

Man these look nice!  My gut tells me they are going to sound great too but we'll have to wait.  I was planning on seeing/listening to one at CanJam and the bad news is I won't be able to go now.  Even though it's only 15 minutes from my home we have soccer all weekend and I coach.  If I can get away it would only be for an hour.

@Marcel / Clybourne

If you are ever in England let me know - and please drop by Oxford University with your gear - we're pretty crazy about audio too! It'd be a great holiday as well :wink:.

Marcel,

Reagrding the Zodiac+ (which shipped today!)

  • Volume bypass?
  • Is the word clock input used when USB playback is chosen. I'm guessing it just works in "adaptive" mode.
  •  Will it allow auto-sample rate switching?

Looking forward to hearing this later in the week.

I think Antelope is in Europe. Germany?
