PortaPro vs iGrado vs PX200

I find the PX200 the most unpleasant of the group. After that, PX100 and PortaPros I can enjoy about the same as both extremely comfy and sound great, just very different signatures.

The iGrados may be a step up in SQ (They're almost on-par with the G2A's for me), but they get extremely uncomfortable after a few hours.

@kostalex : are you saying that an amped portapro will sound much different then the unamped?

PortaPro bass is tighter, better controlled when amped. Mods may take PortaPro sound to SR225 level.

but unfortunately I don't have an amp. I will buy it for sure but maybe next year or so. Do you think PortaPro bass can be adjusted by using eq?

You don't need to amp the PortaPros to get good performance out of them. They sound very, very good without amping or modifications. A recable and an amp can take the Portas to the next level, but you really won't find them lacking in any way straight out of the box. The bass imo is fine, but if you find it excessive you can indeed eq it down.

in the end i bought the AKG K420. i get it 85 SGD. i prefer that compared to igrado and portapro... i think the bass of igrado and portapro are way to bloated. that's the main reason why i choose AKG

Congrats on your purchase. AKG is quality gear.

The bass on the iGrado can be tuned by modding the pads. If it's too much, making a hole in the pads can help a lot. There are some threads here discussing it. (Not really relevant, since you've already got the AKG's, but thought I would mention it for others.)

after listening it for few days. i think what K420 is a very well balanced headphone. The detail is not really amazing but excellent if you are using for portable use. I mean using digital source like ipod.

great headphone for its price. i got at SGD $85. lol
